Default What's on tap for 2008??

What albums are scheduled to be released this year that you are looking forward to?

It seems to me i read that Springsteen will have another disc out in the spring, they recorded alot of stuff in the 'Magic' sessions, and if i recall correctly, there are plans for alot of it to come out in 08.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

New ones from Metallica, Death Angel, and Meshuggah are due. Really looking forward to the new Meshuggah and their tour opening for Ministry's farewell tour. Oh, and King's X has one coming as well.

Allow me to display my ignorance by saying that, with the exception of Metallica (whom i haven't really listened to) i have the slightest fuck who those people are.

    Ministry's farewell tour?
There seems to be some memos i haven't been cc'd on.

King's X is one of the most ass kicking rock bands ever assembled. It is too bad that they never really got over the hump with the mainstream. They are simply amazing and should have been headlining arena's back in the day. I can't say enough about them.

Whitesnake will release a new disc called Good To Be Bad, their first full studio set since 1997, The Black Crowes have a new album coming out too titled Warpaint.

Other artists scheduled to release albums in 2008 that I'm keen for include...

    AC/DC
    Metallica
    Extreme
    Aerosmith
    Sammy Hagar
Heaven And Hell otherwise known as Black Sabbath
    U2
    Queen + Paul Rodgers

Plus, however unlikely, it'd be nice if we got that long awaited Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy, along with a new Van Halen disc, particularly if Mike returns to the fold and it features DLR on vocals.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

    Goo Goo Dolls

My wife is a HUGE fan of them.
She got to meet them during a 'meet and greet' before a show last year. She said they were pretty cool and down to earth.

Meshuggah = Swedish Death Metal with more in common with Rush than the typical "Drano" voices of that genre.

Death Angel = "Old School" Bay Area thrash band that were contemporaries of Metallica, Testament, and Exodus in the 80's but broke up after a car accident almost killed the drummer. They are back and, IMO, better than ever.

King's X = (To echo Tampa VH) The most criminally over-looked band of the past two decades.

Ministry's Farewell Tour = The tour is named "C-Ya Latour" and its Al Jourgensen's last lap. He says that when a daughter, mother, and grandmother came up to him for an autograph a few years ago, he knew it was time to go.

being from Houston, I was exposed to Kings X early on. Great band a great bunch of guys.

Quick note...when I saw bon jovi in 1995 they made a point of saying "great to be houston, the city that gave us Kings X" and then when I saw Nuno Bettencourt around the same time, Nuno made it a point of saying how awesome Kings X is and that they were a real musicians band.

I would love to be in Kings X's position. They really have the best of both worlds. They can call any musician they want at any time, they can go on tour at any moment they want but they can still do their groceries or go into a record shop without being mauled. They are popular among the kind of people I'd want to be popular with and have untouchable reputations and they never have to worry about appealing to some 16 year old with a hot topic bought belt or wrist bands. As far as I'm concerned, Kings X is the PRIME example of making it in the music business.

If you were to put King's X in a genre, or with some contemporaries, who would they be?

Also, congrats to Ian Sane for being the first to mention a VH disc in this thread, and vaguely trying to start another Sammy/ Dave discussion, post # 6.
For a prize, i will be personally purchasing and sending to Ian(at my own expense) the deluxe editions of both Chinese Democracy and the new VH album, just as soon as they are released.
I do suspect that, by the time these disc are available, i may actually be able to drive to Australia.

kings X is a rock band...i guess if you want to split more hairs, they could either be a "hard" rock band or perhaps a "prog" rock band but I don't know...just always sounded like rock and roll to me...

    Key attributes of King's X:
    • Exceptional vocal harmonies for any band but especially for a trio.
    • There is a definite Beatles influence, especially the songs from their guitarist Ty Tabor
    • Also a "groove/funk" influence compliments of Dug Pinnick (bassist)
    • Jeff Ament from Peal Jam has credited King's X with influencing their brand of "Grunge"
    • The lyrical content of their songs is generally positive and always substantive

Here is the link to their MySpace page which has 4 songs from various points in their career.

I love their harmony work...I saw them several years back and witnessed one of the most amazing things ever. We were watching the show and they were hitting home run after home run. They get to one of their more popular tunes, I forget which one, and the chorus has an incredible three part harmony. Well the crowd begins singing along and, I shit you not, the audience sang the harmonies perfectly!! It's like they got together before the show and rehearsed or something. It threw Ty off so much that he stopped playing and singing and just started listening...his eyes got huge and he looked over at Doug and they just were floored. This went on for two full choruses...this audience of drunken rock fans sounded like the mormon tabernacle choir. It was insane.

A new Disturbed album will be out this year, looking forward to that.
Sully from Godsmack is thinking of doing a solo Casino tour similar to what Arin Lewis of Staind has done. Sully will also be releasing a solo album.
    3. It's been rumored for a while that AIC will be putting out new material.
    4. Iron Maiden will do a more extensive tour of the US this year, other than the 2 shows in March.
