Default What the F$%...Bill Would Ban Swearing in Bars

    Tuesday, January 8, 2008

(01-08) 07:56 PST ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) --

What the ...? A St. Louis-area town is considering a bill that would ban swearing in bars, along with table-dancing, drinking contests and profane music.

City officials contend the bill is needed to keep rowdy crowds under control because the historic downtown area gets a little too lively on some nights.

City Councilman Richard Veit said he was prompted to propose the bill after complaints about bad bar behavior. He says it will give police some rules to enforce when things get too rowdy.

But some bar owners worry the bill is too vague and restrictive, saying it may be a violation of their civil rights.

Marc Rousseau, who owns bar R.T. Weilers, said he thinks the bill needs revision.

"We're dealing with adults here once again and I don't think it's the city's job or the government's job to determine what we can and cannot play in our restaurant," Rousseau said.

The proposal would ban indecent, profane or obscene language, songs, entertainment and literature at bars.

A meeting to discuss the proposal is set for Jan. 14.

oh jesus christ...here we go with another one of these retarded bills...mark my words, pretty soon we're going to have a bill introduced in some town keeping people from cursing or drinking or whatever in their own homes....and they'll have some vague rationale behind it just like they do here...

Here's a better idea: Have each bar/nightspot wash out one of those huge glass jars that pickled eggs come in, cut a slot in the top and put a sign on it stating:

    SWEAR WORDS 25 CENTS EACH

The proceeds could be used for any number of deserving charities. Sure makes a shitload more sense than yet more butt-fuckingly insipid legislation.

If the results of this bill come close to the intent, a typical bar room brawl will start out like:
Patron #1 - "Are looking at my wife, poo-poo head?"
Patron #2 - "So what if I am, stinky butt!"
Patron #1 - "You want to take it outside, dork-wad?"
Patron #2 - "Lets go, you retard!"

Yeah, it'll work like a charm.

that's just it....they want to ban certain words that are arbitrarily designated as "swear" words. If we get rid of shit, fuck, bitchassmotherfuckerdicknugget and the rest then words like stinky butt and dork-wad will need to be banned because THOSE words are no swear words. Then we'll need to ban the words after that. Words are words. What they really want to do is ban the emotion behind the words, be it anger, sadness, enthusiasm whatever and that's just not going to happen....at least I hope not.

Being from St. Louis, there is no way, I repeat, no way this crap gets passed. It's just a politician trying to make a name for himself. They are going to have a council meeting on the 14th. Something tells me they aren't getting through that meeting without someone telling him to fuck off.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

I wish somebody would sponsor a bill someplace that outlaws blatant stupidity. You have to start somewhere.
