    Default And about Dave?

I've only sen the youtube stuff from this tour and read the reviews here, but everyone seems to agree that Dave is certainly on form at the moment, putting on a show, getting the words right etc and he looks in pretty good shape too.

In light of all the stuff being said about Ed, myself included, with regards to intoxication, I was wondering, has Dave cleaned himself up these days? He doesn't have any of the obnoxious coke-head arrogance or sloppy drunkeness that i remember seeing from days gone by.

I read that he's big into martial arts etc and of course that'll keep you fit, but he does seem more controlled, physically, vocally and aware.

Seeing as he hasn't really done any press recently, what is the current state of affairs with Mr Lee Roth? Any ideas?
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

Dave didn't allow any drinking by his solo band--and he was extremely strict about it--before or during the show. So it wouldn't surprise me if he himself was also staying clean for each show.

For Dave, he looks good and sounds good.

"Consumate Professional" is not a word I have ever heard with Dave's name before. After seeing clips or other snippets of Dave (especially from Sam & Dave and prior) I'd say he was wayyyy old news from old schtick sickness. But after seeing him in September of '05 in Eugene, Oregon, I think possibly one of the last shows before his radio gig, even though he was enjoying a cig and a glass of his beverage of choice (not to mention the Jack "money shot") he appeared to be a "little more focused" than what had been posted online for public consumption, on youtube, etc in the past. I thought then he was ready to "front this band". Since then, he has actually improved---dramatically. If you think he has quit smoking or drinking, "fuh'gettaboutit". I think he's just actually using common sense about it all. Saying anymore would be extra-editorializing, so I'll just leave it with that observation.

Nope...Dave was hitting the Jack Daniels in Kansas City standing on Ed's side at the drums. Gave the crowd a bottoms up and hit the bottle 3 times taking a swig. That does not constitute calling him wasted on stage...just making the point that there was some drinking going on and I still swear something was weird with Ed and all of them that night. What a train wreck that show was.

Now that is just one time out of the 3 so far I have seen on this tour of Dave doing that, so I agree with you that he is probably clean on stage...but he can't resist the Jack! And yes he is ON FIRE!

God knows I can resist the Jack Daniels....that is some hardcore nasty stuff.

Imagine a world without Eddie Van Halen.

"From the moment David Lee Roth appeared at the top of a giant runway that snaked through the Oklahoma City Ford Center audience Tuesday night, he wore the one thing that told every Van Halen fan that everything was right with the world. It was a maniacal Cheshire cat smile announcing happiness and enthusiasm that cannot be faked. Not only was the old band back together, it was thriving."

That show was the one right after us in Minneapolis--two days later. We got a great show with all the stories and energy, etc. I don't know what the hell happened before KC (but I'm curious to know).

I saw Dave at the House Of Blues in July 2006 and he was drinking Jack throughout the entire show ...

He wasn't chuggin' it, but in moderation, a shot here and there and a toast to the crowd.

Pretty kool, that show was killer.
