Green Manalishi - Judas Priest (Fleetwood Mac)
We train dogs for cattle and sheep herding. They're very different. Sheep are a lot like supermodels - they bunch together, they rattle very easily. Cattle are like drunks at a hockey game - two will want to fight: "Who are you and what's with your badge?"

Two of them will be like: "Leave them alone, let's go see the game." Another one is lost: "Where'd you guys go?" The dog has to deal with all of that. You work them off a whistle. It's the original video game.

"I like to listen to my music, not look at it on a spectrum analyzer." - tcantafio

Van Halen reminded us last night of why we loved them in the first place. They helped us to get past all the bullshit around us and remind us to have a little fucking fun in the midst of it all. - Reckless Fable

Sammy Hagar -Piece Of My Heart
I choked when I read this. Sammy did a cover of Janis Joplin's song? Some songs are just too sacred to be messed with, and that's one of them. I know some country singer did a cover of this, and it was just a joke, IMO. But Sammy you'd think would know better.

    I have to hear it...

Okay, I generally don't like covers, but here are a few I do like:

You Really Got Me - Van Halen (Kinks)

Wild Night - John Mellencamp (Van Morrison)

Train Kept ARollin' - Aerosmith (don't know who did it originally)

Mississippi Queen - Molly Hatchet (Mountain)

Scarborough Fair - Simon & Garfunkel (medieval folk song?)

Sammy recorded his version of "Piece of My Heart " in 1981.

It's on his Standing Hampton album.

He played it at the Tulsa show. Can't remember if he played it in KC.

He respects the legacy of every cover he has done.

A few of my favorites are:

Whiter Shade Of Pale- HSAS-(Procol Harum)

    Seven Bridges Road-Eagles-(Steve Young)

    One-Shinedown-(U2)
    Utilize. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

    I love coffee and sarcasm.

Suspicious Minds - Dwight Yoakam (Elvis)
Darling Nikki - Foo Fighters (Prince)
Low Rider - Gary Hoey (War)
Please Come to Boston - Jackopierce (Dave Loggins)
Mexico - Jimmy Buffett (James Taylor)
Uncle John's Band - Jimmy Buffett (Grateful Dead)
I Walk the Line - Los Lonely Boys (Johnny Cash)

These guys are fucking great! All they do is cover songs. Every album they record has a theme to it. Whenever I play them for the first time for someone, they always love them.

That's just too funny...and to think that I figured THEY would be the one band that would go over like a fart in church.

The only problem is, to my ears, they are REALLY either hit or miss. When they miss with one of their covers, it sails WIDE right. But when they redo a song right and really connect, they can almost make it their own.

...which is kinda the same philosophy some goof-offs from Pasadena had a few decades ago...

...hmmmm...ironically, I was almost going to add something at the end of my list about song covers that DIDN'T do justice to the original.

While the MM version of "Blinded" was far more commercially successful, I still prefer that "all over the place" vibe that Bruce's version has.

I love this cover of a couple of Janis Joplin songs from Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge. It's from the Grammys a couple of years ago. It was available on Itunes (not sure if it still is).

When did Foo Fighters cover "Darling Nikki"?

I know most dont, but i always kinda liked WIngers version of Purple Haze, Dweezil Zappa played on it at the end i believe.

VH-Rock n Roll on LWON was great.
