    Default Dead @ Disney

A Florida man died Tuesday after riding a roller coaster at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Jeffery Reed, 44, of Navarre, Fla., was found unconscious at the conclusion of the Expedition Everest ride at the resort's Animal Kingdom.

Disney personnel provided medical assistance to Reed, and he was transported to Celebration Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Orange County Sheriff's officials said.

Inspectors found no problems with the ride, Animal Kingdom's Expedition Everest, but Disney was keeping it closed pending further review.

Reed appeared to be conscious approximately 50 seconds before the conclusion of the ride, when a camera snapped his photograph, officials said.

The roller coaster is billed as a "high-altitude, high-speed train adventure" where "nail-biting hairpin turns hurl you forward toward the peak and then, just when you think it couldn't get more thrilling — backward!"

Officials said there was no trauma or injury to Reed.

"We offer the family our deepest sympathies and will provide assistance to them during this difficult time," Disney spokesperson Andrea Finger said.

Yeah, if there is nothing wrong with the ride, Disney probably won't be liable for anything. It sounds like he probably had a heart condition and shouldn't of been on the ride. Maybe it was undiagnosed or the guy just didn't heed the warnings.

    Either way, RIP

i agree but unfortunately they'll get a lawyer, or a lawyer will get them, and they'll launch a lawsuit regardless....

LOL, I was thinking the exact same thing. I've never been to WDW so I'm curious now if there are other attractions like that as well.

A lot of the rides in WDW Magic Kingdom are similar or the same rides as Disneyland, especially the older rides.

No Brett, it has nothing to do with the Matterhorn, nor is it anyway similar to it. This is a brand new attraction, exclusive to Walt Disney World. The theme of the ride is that you're searching for the Yeti. I've been on it several times during my last trip there back in September. There's an 80 foot drop backwards in the dark. It's simply awesome. Check it out: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw...estPage&bhcp=1

It's a shame that this poor guy had to pass away on it.

I was there two weeks ago and the fucked up thing is that my wife and I got stuck at the very top, about 300 feet up. We had to walk down 15 flights of stairs, through the inside of the ride, to get down. The staff said that happens about once a week.

The scary thing was that, as we were sitting there waiting to be "rescued", we looked down at the stairs next to the track and there was no railing to hold onto! However, before they got us out of the cars they raised the railing hydraulically; which is good because there was no way I was getting out of that car 300 feet up with nothing to hold onto.

That said, it sounds like the poor dude had a bad ticker and that it wasn't Disney's fault. Interestingly enough, technically no one has ever "died" at Disney. They are always "pronounced dead" off of the property - like with this guy at Celebration hospital. Then they just hose off the ride, if necessary, and fire it back up.

Sure, on the outside they might look similar, but the actual ride experience is completely different. So no, Expedition Everest is NOT simply Disney World's version of the Matterhorn.
