Default PUTIN NAMED TIME'S 'PERSON OF THE YEAR'...

    PERSON OF THE YEAR 2007

    http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/personoftheyear/
His final year as Russia's President has been his most successful yet.
At home, he secured his political future.
Abroad, he expanded his outsize—if not always benign—influence on global affairs

Secured his political future, umm yeah but I least he didn't steal right?

I wonder if the American soldier will ever get Man of the Year from TIME magazine.

The celebration and recognition of corrupt and honor-less people is becoming quite disturbing.

I can't believe people celebrate this man in our country. If you want a man to celebrate, celebrate RON PAUL. The PEOPLE raised 6 million in one day of fund raising and that money was not from lobbyist, it was from AMERICANS who work hard for their money. Ron Paul also has a blimp, that was paid for not by his campaign but from the PEOPLE of OUR GREAT NATION. Dr. Paul wants freedom from governments tyranny over us. Every American should really want this man as President to restore our Constitution and our liberties.

Can't believe they picked this guy. He sounds like a sneaky dictator to me. At least from what I've read about him.

I hate how the media overlooks political controversies. These days they are desperate for this kind of attention so I'm not surprised.

I agree, Ron Paul or more befittingly the American soldier deserves this.

Has the media become full of cowards?

Ron Paul or the American soldier? Maybe the later, but the former? Please. You guys are political junkies.

What would be interesting is to have been a fly on the wall when the Time editors were arguing about Putin. I wonder how many times Hitler's name came up?

Wasn't Hitler Man Of The Year as well?

edit*** Nevermind, I see that Hitler was Man Of The Year for Time in 1938 (issue hit the stand in Jan. of 1939).

Perhaps I am a "political junky" or maybe just a concerned citizen of the USA. I doubt anyone on this forum has researched and watched all the debates, well that is except me. So criticize me for being an informed voter and taking my civil duties seriously but I am not the ignorant voter that is malinformed and can't even use the voting machines.

Oh I just found out Ron Paul was one of the men of the year. Ya got a pipe to smoke that in?

I suppose that's what your media wants to make him look like. Besides you guys don't know Russian people at all if you expect for American model of democracy to work there not even 2 decades after Socialism.

Uh...he IS a sneaky dictator. That's not what we WANT him to be. When nations around the world look at your election process and see that people were forced to vote a particular way, that's not democracy. The guy is ex-KGB. His government publicly knocked off dissedents with poison. This guy is a slime ball and continues to make moves to the detriment of democracy in general--and his country.

Michael, I appreciate your fine service to this Country, but that's the silliest argument you have ever made since I've come to this board.

I'm not Black but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about slavery.
I'm not Jewish, but that doesn't mean I don't have an opinion about the Holocaust.
I'm a man, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about abortion.
I'm not a professional baseball player, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about steroid use in the game.
I'm not a guitar player, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about Eddie's playing.

    I could go on.

Wearing the uniform doesn't make anyone more qualified to have an opinion about war and politics.

Dude, please stop asking this question for the purpose of using the answer as a qualifier of someones credibilty to comment on politics or war. It gets so old.

So you put on a uniform? We are all greatful that you did it and hold you in the same regard as the rest of our fighting men and woman. My guess is that you went into the military and got part of your education paid for out of it. Am I right? Doesn't matter for what reason you did it really... just that you did. However, that does not make you more qualified than others to study, research, and comment on politics and events like many of us do. You seem to be under the impression that everyone except you just sits and watches TV or the internet for a few hours a day and then come to the links to one up the opposition.

BTW - you are causing miandering of the topic of Putin getting his mug as Person of the Year on Time magazine. Let's try and stay on that topic and stop eliminating serious discussion because someone may have never been in military service.

The man says he takes his "civil duties" seriously. I'm just wondering if he really means that, or if he just gets a kick out of politics.

Do you actually think that's an argument? It's a question--a question for him, not for you.
