Default Dan Fogelberg Dies Of Prostate Cancer

Admittedly, I was never a big fan, but I thought this deserved a mention in our little Music Forum.

Yes, RIP. He did that song "Same Auld Lang Syne" that is always a bit melancholy to hear at Christmas.

I actually heard it on Sirius just this morning.

I don't think they knew yet, just a coincidence.

He had a cool song in the 80's called Language of Love or Lesson of Love, I can't recall the title, but it was decent.

My favorite song from him was Leader of The Band, about his dad.
"Jesus, that fucker just crawled out of his hen house that was destroyed by the Alabama tornados. Fucking 280mph plus winds sucked the gleam off this bitch and passed it on to a bird in Rhoad Island." - Hurricane Halen 5/3/11 (about my birthday chicken from seenbad)

"Pete is this big, loud muthafucker with a big ass heart, y'all!!!!---------" - Hurricane Halen 9/27/13

"Princess Freckle-Tits hasn't had a good day." LLFHS 7/8/10 (on Lindsay Lohans' legal drama)

Dan was one of the greats, IMO. Thoughtful lyrics, beautiful arrangements. He probably belongs in the category of those artists who are overlooked and underappreciated by the masses, which makes his music seem that much more special, really.

"Leader of the Band" will make me stop what I'm doing everytime, just to enjoy the message, and probably to remind me of how deeply I respect and admire my own Dad.

"Hard To Say" was one of his later hits that gets overlooked, a great tune, with a Glenn Frey cameo.

"Lucky at love, well, maybe so,
    There's still a lot of things you'll never know;
Like why each time the sky begins to snow you cry."

    Rest in peace, Dan.

Dan was never my favorite, but I admit he has written some great songs. When I hear his hits, I'm always taken back to some memory from my childhood (since that's when his popularity was at its peak), and I think that's pretty cool.

Jeez...if one went to high school in the late seventies, enjoyed drinking cheap wine and sitting about campfires on weekends, one had to love Dan Fogelberg. The album "Souvenirs" (produced by Joe Walsh, of all people) was a certifiable classic. "As The Raven Flies" and the immortal "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler" were part of the soundtrack of my late teen years.

The album with flutist Tim Weisberg ("Twin Sons Of Different Mothers") was simply cool.

Sadly, he developed that weird "Kenny Loggins" disease (absurd and at times disturbing wimpiness) sometime in the eighties and more or less fell off of the planet. Hey, shit happens. This does not in any way diminish the fine music and thoughtful words that came before.

Sad to hear of your passing, Dan. Your stuff touched me. Thanks for your time here.

I have "There's A Place..." on the "FM" soundtrack - good song. What the hell was he doing living in Maine, though? Rest in Peace, Dan.
