Default Oprah Winfrey, Vice President Candidate?

    Oprah Winfrey, Vice President Candidate?
    Could it happen??

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Oprah Winfrey's recent campaign swing with Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama was greeted with wild cheers and record-breaking crowds.

But some of the talk show host's fans aren't happy she's become politically outspoken, and many are sounding off on Oprah's Web site.

"Oprah," says one, "count me as tuned out for now." Another writes, "It's a real turn off for a lot of your fans." And yet another says "She has crossed a line and lost my trust completely."

But, what's especially interesting about reading Oprah's Web site is why some of those fans seem to be upset: the way she stumped for Obama, they say, seemed to pit white against black.

"I've been inspired to believe that a new vision is possible for America,"
Oprah said while on the stump with Obama in South Carolina. "Dr. King dreamed the dream, we get to vote that dream into reality."

Back on Oprah's Web site, one commenter wrote, "Winfrey has artfully begun her stump speeches alongside Obama with a negative racial tone."

And another commenter wrote, "Don't pit blacks against whites."

Interviewed on ABC's Good Morning America Wednesday, Winfrey rejected the notion she is supporting Obama merely because he is black.

"I get a little..I guess the word is 'offended,'" Winfrey said. "To think that I would be supporting someone just because of their skin would mean we haven't moved far from Dr. King's speech in 1963, where he said we should be judged by the content of our character not the color of their skin."

In another interview, Winfrey told CNN that she weighed carefully whether she should get involved in politics, wondering whether she would "lose viewers as a result."

"I made the decision that I have the right to do it as an American citizen," she said.

god help us...a couple years ago I told my wife and a group of friends that Oprah was positioning herself to run for president one day. They thought I was being paranoid. I told them to just wait and see. This is her sticking her toe in the water. This is only the beginning.

As much as Oprah would like to say race isn't a part of it, she wouldn't be out stumping for Obama if he was white. That is part of his attraction. She shouldn't get offended when someone points that out.

This is a miscalculation for the "Harpo" Empire. Part of the attraction to her is that she never got involved in divisive issues like politics. Now she is alienating a large part of her fan base.

One that votes I might add.

Unfortunately to add to the miscalculation, both Obama and Winfrey have fan bases that are more white than black. I think most whites are ready to support a black candidate - but that candidate has to run as a person, not black or white. The minute you start drumming 'the dream' crap, you lose those voters. They know what King meant, and for many people that dream is a reality. Now, 'the dream' cliche`only means something to blacks when it includes ONLY blacks and that isn't what Dr. King had in mind. But, I digress...

To add to Obamas problem, most blacks will not support him if he appears to run just as a colorless candidate. If he isn't down for the struggle or jumping on the 'black power' train, they will dismiss him in a heartbeat. What is really terrible for many blacks, is that they have been conditioned to disregard blacks who succeed, co-exist, and are admired by whites. This is why people like Justice Thomas, Thomas Seoul, and Alan Keyes are never highlighted or upheld as examples and champions for the black race.

Thus, the illusion of racism driven by hypocrites continues.

Well she's never endorsed a political candidate before, Obama is a cookie-cutter democrat with nothing that hasn't been brought to the table before...except that he happens to be black. I don't think I'm speculating too hard here. She never endorsed Al Gore, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, or any local democratic candidate in Illinois.

The all-powerful Oprah should stay outta politics and stick to her talk show. And yeah, why hasn't she ever endorsed a candidate before?

You know, at this point, can it get worse than Bush? We need someone with some real balls to get in and turn this shipwreck around. I would be intrigued to look into any and all candidates views. It is time that someone that has not grown up in filthy wealthy environments get into office. Yeah yeah she is filthy rich now, but she still remembers what it was like to have nothing. Maybe it is time...

Oh, the media is going to love this, but I don't believe Oprah wants to get deeply involved with politics, she was only used to gain more awareness for the Obama campaign and paid good for it. The American people have been dumbed to a great extent, but hopefully not to the limit of this sort of radicalism, at least not yet.

It would be great if he accepted Ron Paul as VP if he was elected. I would be ALL for that.
    Respects.
