Default Fellow guitar players...Looking for feedback on new music..

I don't know if this is wrong forum mods but I wanted the guitar players in here I know to listen to some new music my band has done. Andrew, Brett etc., Check this stuff out when you get a chance at www.myspace.com/redhawkstationmusic it's not completely done and the vocals need work but I wanted to get it out there and get feedback from people on here I trust to tell me the truth! If it sucks, say so! If not thanks in advance for the listen.

    Thanks guys!

By the way Andrew, I listened to some of your solo stuff recently and can't get "Perspectives" out of my head. The guitar riff sounds like the Balance outake "Crossing Over". Cool as hell man and haunting!

Just listened to Row 19 (default) and Joystick.

Let me start by saying I have no music online for you to critique so take it for what it's worth.

First impression: Music sounded good. Nice and tight in many spots. Guitar tone was clear and defined (Joystick). Drums sounded fine to me. The vocalist was off-key on nearly the whole song on Row 19 (to my ear). His timbre is a little shrill to me as well and his vibrato needs some work. Not a slam by any means, just takes away from the music, IMO.

I do think the instruments gel well.

Thanks dude, no offense taken. In fact I love the music I came up with and HATE the song and lyrics! That's one reason I put that song up,cause he thinks it's the shit and all hi pals think it's spiffy! The whole voice thing is by default. We have gone through a million singers so the drummer/studio owner took command. I would love to have a different singer and better lyrics/singing on this song to be worthy of the music.

being completely honst, and from a guy who could do no better...

    love the music
    love the writing
guitar drums bass all got a great groove

    dont like the vocals
    dont like the mix

finding a great vocalist is tough, but you can get a good one
to sound better , maybe a vocal processor, He sounds dry and pitchy.
If this was live music, I would give him more slack.

Honest opinion, mix is a little weird. I know Myspace distorts stuff, but the cymbals are very distorted sounding, almost like they're overloaded. They need to be cleaned up a lot.

Music is good, tight. Good playing.

The singing is (not trying to rip you at all) frankly horrible. Guy just isn't a good singer, and trust me I know very well of bad singers. The singer in my band (the other guitarist) is a singer by default too, but he knows his limitations and is able to sing in key and within himself. Your guy is just very pitchy and just plain off on parts. If you can, try to find a different singer, he'll be able to do your music justice.

i'd have to agree the mix at certain points does seem a little odd and the drums a little "peaky" imo
the singer sounds like a bonn scott/brian johnson impersonator who is failing at both...its not horrible by any means but needs some work, im sure if he got some vocal training he'd sound ok....some of the vocal harmonies sounded a little weird to my ears, but again thats imo

overal though the music is pretty good everyone seems tight, the overal guitar tone is pretty good
so keep it up buddy...nice work, you should be proud of your efforts

Thanks, dude. That song, along with the others on the EP it came from, was recorded in just a few hours. The main guitar part, which really has nothing to it, was recorded live with my brother on drums; we just jammed until we felt each next section coming, and take three is what became the song. I then overdubbed the other instruments--all of which were one take (the reason why it's my favorite song from the EP). So in all it was a very "improvised" tune.

I'll hit up your tunes here when I won't wake up my neighbors doing it. Will report back...

Music was cool, vocals weren't. I'm in a band and we've been searching for a singer for about 2 good years. It's amazing at the guys that come out, much worse than your singer, but I would still drop your singer. He's taking away from the music. I liked "joystick", and the singer sounded kinda sorta okay in the beginning.

    hehe!

yeah the singer can't stay on key.

kinda depends what you want to do with this. if you're just having fun that's all that matters really, i would just pump out tons of tunage for the hell of it rather than spend too much time fussing on the details. sometimes it takes a while for you to start to hear something that you can pin down as your sound or your take on a particular genre so that is another way to approach it.

if you are taking it more seriously i will second the advice above.

And hey, "if" you do get rid of your singer and he gives you a hard time.... just show him this link. That'll shut 'em up.

Sounds great, except the singing/lyrics are awfull.

You are a good guitarist!!! There is a spot that would be perfect for a solo in that song!
