    Peavey Wolfgang Specials

Can someone explain the difference between the US and other versions of this guitar? Is the non US version worth looking at?

I've noticed the US version is expensive (abt £750) over here in the UK but the "other" version is cheap (abt £200)

    Thanks

The Korean (EXP) Wolfgangs are not all crap. Just like the USA ones are not all great.

I have one of each and am very happy with both.
One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...
...Judas Priest only has one gay guy in the band.

I agree, I have a Standard and just got an EXP super cheap. Obviously there is a quality difference but sound wise I am very happy with the EXP

Very True. I wouldn't trade my Wolfie Standard US for any guitar in the world ever....there's something about it

As far as technical specifications, if we look at the KOR Wolf vs the Wolf Special Flametop:
-The Special Flametop has standard Wolfang tremolo while the Korean model has an inferior tremolo with a different arm and appearance (albeit functional)
-The Special Flametop has an actual flame maple top (I believe it's 1/4" thick) while the Korean model has a very thin veneer

If we put both the Special Flametop and the US Special against the Korean model:
-They say the pickups are the same, and they may be identical, but they don't sound too far off either
-The US Special also has the same tremolo as the Special Flametop & Standard
-The necks on the Special Flametop & Special are raw wood while the Korean model has a satin finish

Honestly, I'd go with a US Special any day of the week over the Korean model. Search the forums here - there is quite a few threads about the Korean model.

Yes, we've compared the USA Wolfgangs vs. the Korean Wolfgang Specials up and down here many times.

By itself the Wolfgang Special EXP (import) is not a terrible guitar. It is, however, inferior to its USA counterparts in multiple ways. If you want the actual, realized, and original version of the Wolfgang, buy a USA model. The EXP is a cheapened version of it; don't be fooled by how "good" the veneer quilt top looks in photos.

geez..AT..I didn't realize you are guru of the Wolfgang..you have 19 Wolfgangs?!?!?

We were both replying in the same thread back in Sept. right before Van Halen was coming to the Target Center...did you ever end up going?

by the way, I just bought my first Wolfie Special ..A Duluth Music Go Round had one...and they shipped it to me free down to the cities...

Would have liked a nice Flame Top, but they are VERY pricey right now..

Some dude on Craigslist in Eagan is selling a Flame Top Deluxe for $1000
..looks real nice, but the wife woulda probably killed me

That dude has listed and re-listed that red flametop for at least a couple of months now. (Literally like ten people have emailed me the link.)

I have 18 Wolfgangs now--sold one a few weeks ago. And I'll probably sell another in January.

The VH show was good. The band was on, Dave was in his storytelling mood, and I went with good friends. Two nights later in KC they apparently gave one of their worst performances, so we were lucky.
