    Default My 1982 bedroom

I was looking at this picture of me from 1982 and it struck me as a hilarious glimpse into the past. Here's what I see:

    1. Have to start with the Brady Bunch walls. Remember that wood paneling? Our house was built in 1972 and I think every house had that shit.

    2. The shag rug carpet. Again, a staple from that era.

    3. My corduroy pants and plaid shirt. No idea what that's all about.

    4. The stereo. What we have here is a combination record player, 8-track player, and cassette player. Think about that. We had 3 forms of audio technology all phasing in and out at the same time and all in one state of the art stereo. Too funny!!

    5. The record collection leaning against the stereo stand.

    6. In the upper left we have an 8-track carousel holding some of our 8-track collection. The third one down is definitely Van Halen 2. I know we had a shitload more but I guess this was the point where my brother and I were transitioning to cassettes and started ditching the 8-tracks.

    7. Moving across the shelf we have the ultimate 80's rage - The Rubik's Cube.

    8. The cassette collection. Again, love how this picture captures all three music mediums. Was a way of life then but seems ridiculous now.

The only thing missing here are the NHL bed sheets and pillow cases with teams like the California Golden Seals and Kansas City Scouts on it. We had them for a long time but just not in this pic.

Sorry, but I just think this picture captures so much about that time period and I thought many of you might appreciate the humor in it.

OMG...I LOVE it!!! I had the panelling walls too but my carpet was dark green and black shag. Yeah, baby! At first I wasn't sure if that was a picture of you or an actual picture from the Brady Bunch set b/c that looks like Bobby Brady playing the guitar! Classic...good stuff.

Seeing that Les Paul reminded me of this...

That red lamp in the upper left hand corner of your photo wouldn't happen to be a lava lamp, now would it?

It's a shame one can't see the bedroom door. Mine featured a poster of Ken Stabler on it.

Thanks for the memories of a safer, although no more saner time.

Is that a red lava lamp I see in the upper left corner next to the 8 track holder? Yes, my brother had the same NHL hockey bed covering you mentioned. We had the LP, 8 track, and cassette formats. CDs were too new and expensive when they came out (players were anywhere from $1,200 to $2,500 and one music CD was $45), and my parents said NO to CDs!
Homer: No one snuggles with Max Power. Just strap on and feel the Gs!

American Coast Guard: Back off Canadians we got them.
Canadian Coast Guard: You back off hosers, they are in Canadian waters, eh.
American Coast Guard: Beat it you puck smacking maple suckers!
Canadian Coast Guard: Take a hike you Shatner stealing Mexico touchers!

Bart: Who the hell is this?
Jack Bauer: I’m Jack Bauer, who the hell is this?
Bart: Me, er… I’m Ahmed Adudi
Jack: Chloe, get me all you can on Ahmed Adudi… Does anyone there know Ahmed Adudi?
Chloe O’Brien: Ahmed Adudi; wealthy Saudi financier… Disappeared into Afghanistan in the late 90s…
    Jack: … Really?
Chloe (ironically): No Jack it’s a joke name, you’re being set up.
    Jack: DAMMIT!

My room circa 82-83. I'm to the right with the Aria Pro II Cardinal Series guitar and guitar strap around my head. Note also that I have on a Diver Down tour shirt.
We train dogs for cattle and sheep herding. They're very different. Sheep are a lot like supermodels - they bunch together, they rattle very easily. Cattle are like drunks at a hockey game - two will want to fight: "Who are you and what's with your badge?"

Two of them will be like: "Leave them alone, let's go see the game." Another one is lost: "Where'd you guys go?" The dog has to deal with all of that. You work them off a whistle. It's the original video game.

Double down, thankyou so much for that pic. We are the same age and though cultural differences mean that I don't get the eight track/football references, that IS ME TOO.

I can still, physically it's so real to me still, remember running home from school to sit on my bed and play guitar. It's not about it being 1982 or anything else. The world seemed better because we were that age and we had THAT enthusiasm for something, anything..........

    What happened eh?

Thanks for that. I feel very happy and very sad right now. Mostly a bit misty eyed. How much would I pay to go back to then and try again?

    Everything.

You can see my shirt better in this one. I was trying to be a badass and I had a huge dip of Skoal in too. What a fucking queer.

Lol....I knew someone would appreciate the paneling and shag rug combo! My god, it seems every house had that.

Love that picture, Chef! Eerily similar.

The red lamp was not a lava lamp. Just a normal lamp.

I can tell you the back of our door was either the Roth poster from WACF of him chained to a fence or a poster of Jim Morrison. My brother was not into VH like I was but was obsessed with The Doors. At different times we had each of those on the door.

Glad you liked it, Graeme. Always nice to see people relate to those days because it really was a great time to be a kid.

JimmyW - Great pics. I'm pissing myself over the kid on the left. The classic Nike T-shirt, the Top Gun style shades, and the vintage Members Only jacket. That kid is just dripping 80's.
