Default VAN HALEN SAY NO TO ROLLING STONE!

    Today, from MelodicRock.com:

VAN HALEN SAY NO TO ROLLING STONE!:
While Van Halen ramp things up for a busy 2008, fans will be interested to learn that the band are still reluctant to do any interviews and just turned down Rolling Stone magazine for a full feature cover story!

AWESOME!! Rolling Stone doesn't have a clue about great musicians or bands anyway. I mean, honestly! They put Eddie as #70 in their greatest guitarists poll. Give me a freakin break!!

That is good news to me.
If they do an interview they will implode.
Roth will go on and on and make a fool of himself. Eddie and Alex will see this and say, same old Dave. Eddie will say something stupid about Mike and Sammy. All the press will want to do is dig up the past with Roth and all of the negitive energy that surrounds the band.

Does anyone konw if Roth travels seperately from the band. I heard this early in the tour ?

I would be shocked if he traveled with the Van Halen's.

    Simply put

As Joe Perry so eloquently stated, "Let the music do the talking." Period.

That's why this tour is more succesful than the Police, etc.

Those F^&*#$'s in RS never gave them props, anyway. Let them go interview JayZ for the 40th billion time.

I guess I'm in the minority here because I would have liked an in-depth interview with their perspective on this tour so far and being together again after all of these years.

    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I'm not sure ticket sales nor number of people who have attended the shows on this tour would match what The Police have done this year. I don't think it would even be close. Over the summer The Police were selling out baseball stadiums, not 15,000 seat arenas. I'm sure their tour is a bit more successful than VH's current tour.

That being said, they need to be careful what bridge they burn by not doing media. I'm amazed that a band can be around for 30+ years and not be media savy at this point. I'm not a big Rolling Stone fan, but their support and coverage isn't something that would hurt VH, it could only help as long as everyone is coached what to say and more importantly what NOT to say during an interview.

Selfishly I would have liked a new interview but I'm happy they turned that fucking rag down. Fuck Rolling Stone!

It would be fairly interesting to know of melodickrock's source for this story. Was this from someone at Rolling Stone, or was it "leaked" from the Van Halen side of things? Either way, it still can be regarded as "promotion" for both parties.

Sorry, I'm a just bit too cynical at this point about the rather manipulative nature of these type of "announcements".

fuck them both. VH are horrible PR people and too immature to conduct an informative, non slanderous interview ands even if they could, Eddie would put a muzzle on Dave (Sammy may have been a little harsh at times, but it's not like he was lying either) and Rolling Stone is about as musically inclined as MTV.

I,too, must be in the minority. I would have liked to have heard an interview from them and see just how good things are going for them. We can see through the BS in their responses as longtime fans and it would be great to find out how Ed's doing these days.

The only reason I could be happy they turned RS down is if their sole motivation to turning them down was because RS sucks. If it is because they want everyone silenced (and by everyone I mean Dave and Ed), then it disappoints me. Something tells me this wasn't a principled stand against a magazine that has denegrated their impact on music, and more of an effort to keep everything closeted.

Oh well, that's about par for the course with these guys. When it comes to lock down secrecy, Area 51 has nothing on Howdy Doody Mountain.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
