Default The Official Brian Setzer Thread

There is a distinct lack of love for this guy....he's one of my all-time favourites and I have a ton of respect for him as an artist who sticks with his vision...

he and his orchestra have a new record out for the holidays and they will be hitting the road....

I couldn't agree with you more. The B.S.O. is AWESOME! I have a variety of their songs on my iPod and their first Christmas CD is great.

Guitar Slinger is a mainstay on my computer at work. Agreed, he's very overlooked.

This is a video from after the first Stray Cats break-up, when the fellow was attempting (perhaps trying a bit too hard) to put some distance between himself and the band. Look for Chuck Levell (Sea Level, Rolling Stones) on keys, along with some typically anonymous 80's players.

What's strange is that John Cougar Mellonhead's drummer Kenny Aronoff played on the record, sounding like Springsteen's percussionist, yet who is present in the video on drums? Yup...Max Weinberg.

Brian Setzer - "The Knife Feels Like Justice" (4:01)

By the way, this dude can sing. If one purchased the 45 single of "I Won't Stand In Your Way", the B-side featured an acapella arrangement of the tune. Sadly, I can't find a version to post. (Oddly enough, other oddities such as the Stray Cats running through "You Can't Hurry Love" have dissappeared from youtube as well... )

Brian lives here in Minneapolis now, and all my buddies keep running into him in bars and music stores. He likes to be out, it would seem. His favorite bar is also my favorite bar, so I imagine I'll see him at some point. I'll of course report in should that happen. (Hell, the father of one of my guitar students ran into him in Target!)

Setzer is an INCREDIBLE singer...you're right about that Chef...and he has the great sense to surround himself with talented people, which is something I've always respected...when the guy can call up Max or Arranoff or assemble a TOP NOTCH orchestra...wow...
