Default When VH finally arrived, are we satisfied?

Well! I haven't been here for a while, and I think its a good idea to summarize the whole Van Halen performance, atleast so far we've seen them! Are you satisfied with what you've seen?

Which things did you like/dislike about the band this Tour 2007. I would be happy to see you answering this, i'm eager to see what you guys think. Because I haven't been able to see them because i'm from Sweden.

    Thank you guys!

I am satisfied. I got to see them with back with Sammy in 2004 and Roth in 2007. I never thought either would be possible when I joined this site back in '99. Both were awesome shows!

    Here Here.

I'm glad I saw both too.
One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...

i was really down on wolfie joining the band...see my avatar...hahahaha.
i happened to have been lucky enough to see 2 shows for free and thought the band was really good...especially the MSG show....that being said...i did miss mikey, something is missing without him...but i can accept this new lineup...and will support them in the future...just wish all 4 original guys could get along

Consider me satisfied. I too would like to have seen the band in its original incarnation, but beggars can't be choosers. Overall, I felt it was money well spent.

    Only dislikes:
Change up the encore (dont remove it, just move it and replace it with other material), and consider shortening or removing the solos. Instead of the solos, how about some kind of extended jam from the band?

I am glad I got to see the old tunes and see Dave live. He sang great and performed decent. Ed rocked the old songs and Al is still kicking ass. Wolfie is Wolfie.

    HOWEVER!!!!!!:

It is not nearly as exciting as it was in 96 when Balance was released and we got to hear new music and see it live. I miss the amazing guitar work in ed's solos and knowing that the band wasn't a nostalgia act. The only way I'll see them again is with Mike, Sam and Dave or some new music.

I haven't seem them much, not even on the Tube, how's Eddie's playing? Is it tight like ever before, or is it still a bit "04ish" ?

Much tighter than '04, because he is sober. "04 vs '07 not even a contest where Ed is concerned.

Lodewijk, for good reading, there is a thread about just such a subject:

Lots of discussion back and forth on the topic...

In honesty, I kept my expectations low given recent history. I didn't go thinking it would rival what I consider to be the best show I've ever seen (VH 1984 @ SF) and it didn't. But, that being said, it was a good show (though the venue sucked). I still remember the dread I felt when EVH was diagnosed with cancer and all the subsequent "loon" behaviour so I really was glad to have one more time to see them, even if MA is absent (and missed), knowing that there may not be many more opportunities. I'm a bit more hopeful that there is a future for VH, though I remain cautious. New music is a must.

Good new music is a must. The last good thing Ed wrote was about 12 years ago. "Humans Being"

I'm glad that the whole lot 'em are alive and kicking in whichever incarnation, but I'm bored stiff with all facets.

If David Lee Roth has his band back, I want new music!, from the source.

Lode, great show. Don't expect anything earth shattering. It was a little "too tight" for me but I had a blast. And the people who say Wolfgang isn't playing? Don't listen to them because they have absolutely no proof that he's not playing. He's a decent young bass player who will come into his own with more exposure. All in all, no one ever thought Dave would be on the same stage again in Van Halen, so it's all good.

    Default Satisfied

I am very satisfied with the show I saw in Chicago (Allstate Arena). Of course, it did not look nor did it sound like 1982. How could it? I was fine with it most of all because the playing was excellent and Dave's voice exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Anyhow, the best thing for me has been my copy of the opening night bootleg. I have been listening to it non-stop in my car. Some songs are dead on. EWS, for instance, is just awesome and so is SGMAD. Like many, I do wish they had a new album rather than just greatest hits. I also wish that they would have played CGTSNM and MWM. Personally, I love both of those songs. It would have been a nice surprise. It is too bad everything has to be so scripted. IMO, it would have been really cool if they had played Yankee Rose and a Hagar era song for fun. I am positive that the joint would go ape shit over that. I'd love to see Ed do YR and I think Dave could have done a couple of the Hagar songs to please some of the fans. I know, it is unlikely to happen. It's just weird to me that they'd ignore 20+ years worth of work. I think that when the Eagles first got together, didn't they play some of Don H's solo songs? I just hope they do stick together and release a new album. It would be interesting to see what they could do at this point.
