Default The "Brown Sound" Best Represented

Out of the whole VH catalogue, which album (in your opinion) best captures the brown sound.

The brown sound to me is somewhere in between Fair Warning and 1984. If I had to pick 1 it would be 1984.

    What do you guy's think?

I would have to say Fair Warning as well, Specifically "Unchained" as the ultimate example. Its has all of the ingredients, the heavy crunch, the beatless triads, the bassy but tight and not muddy vibe, and the crispness without sounding shrill....the ultimate recorded guitar tone

It usually depends on the mood I'm in, but his definitive tone for me most days is "Unchained", but there's a little more processing on that whole album. Not bad at all, just a little more effects added. Aside from that I think the most "brown" tone in his true definition of the term is found in a couple of recordings. I think the tone on "Drop Dead Legs" is about as "brown" as it gets on a VH album, but I've always thought the "brownest of the brown"(if that even makes sense) is on the Brain May EP. It's rough and sloppy, but I've always loved that really raw tone he had on those three songs.
We train dogs for cattle and sheep herding. They're very different. Sheep are a lot like supermodels - they bunch together, they rattle very easily. Cattle are like drunks at a hockey game - two will want to fight: "Who are you and what's with your badge?"

Two of them will be like: "Leave them alone, let's go see the game." Another one is lost: "Where'd you guys go?" The dog has to deal with all of that. You work them off a whistle. It's the original video game.

There are great examples of the "brown sound" on each of the first 6 albums. I always felt that "Jamie's Cryin'" captured that sound the best.

The snare drum sound on "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and everything on "Hear About It Later" just about covers it.

I find it funny how the "Brown Sound" is narrowed down to a few songs but is so sought after.

Kind of like my virginity. Narrowed down to a few seconds and sought after ever since.

VH1, however all the first 4 albums are pretty damn brown. Man, his sound went gray when he stopped using marshalls.

one of my faves is the tone on dance the night away and little guitars...but again in my humble opinion the best examples of "THE BROWN SOUND" are found accross the first 6 albums and even to some degree 5150 and ou812 the tone on sucka in a 3piece is a great example.
