Default Rosewood Neck backstage US Festival????

Here's a picture from the Inside:

    http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...20Halen/bf.jpg

This always puzzled me. I did a search in this Forum & didn't find any answer to why EVH's Franky had a rosewood neck prior to jumping on stage @ the US Festival??

Looks like he changed the neck to the chicken-beak Kramer - this may have been the first time that he slapped that neck on.

Does anybody know the story behind the alternate neck?

    Thanx

i dont know that doesn't look like the same one as on stage to me, the tuning pegs are on the bottom

hers another screen shot i found, maybe that was for that back stage gimmick
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

The backstage stuff wasn't shot on the same day as the US Fest. IIRC, it was shot something like two weeks before. Ed was probably just playing around with the Frankie and that's the neck it happened to have on it when they did the shoot.

    Default The Neck

That picture wasnt taken at US Festival.

That neck was used on Star Fleet Project (pictures on album covers and inside jacket). Ed mentioned this neck in an interview. There was a period Ed tried many necks for different tones on Frankie.

Has anyone ever tried to count how many necks ever got put on the Frankie? And where in that succession was the one that ended up being replicated for the replicas?

    the neck

I have a bootleg dvd of the pre-show (shot 2 wks prior by the way)
Apparently they (vh) set up tents for this supposed pre-show up @ EVH's house in Studio City... it was Dave's idea to have this footage played for the fans @ the fest just prior to vh going onstage ..

it's basically the equivalent of vh parachuting into the day on the green a few yrs before (stunt doubles did the actual parachuting)...
Oh the neck, yeah, that is one of many evh experiments....
Cool of evh to keep trying new ways to create new tones/sounds

I'll bet only "us" vh geeks even know any of this shit ..... but it's fun!

    Default EBMM Headstock?

The headstock in the first pic looks like an EBMM.

I think Ed switched the neck around to try different tones...maybe he thought the rosewood fretboard would enhance the tone as it normally does, and after he put the neck on, he didn't like it so he switched necks with the Kramer. I wouldn't know, but Im just takin a guess.

if I'm not mistaken here the neck you are thinking of on the Starfleet pic was an
old danelecro neck, not the same one from this pic at the pre us festival, us festival.

and getting them in order is almost impossible cause they were taken off an put back on etc etc. but there were a couple of us that worked on it and got it close

Fender never made a Frankie replica with a Kramer neck.
The person who bought Ed's original Kramer beak neck put it on his own Fender replica.
There have been some pics posted on other sites.
    Maybe that's what you saw.

That was one of the greatest feelings of excitement when picking up the latest guitar mag w/ an EVH cover story. What new Franky pix will we see!?!!!??

Too many necks on that legendary guitar! I remember once when my guitar teacher said, "I bet he has about 10 of those Frankenstrats"

I looked @ him like - lessons over!
