Default Vh1 - Best Front Men TV Show

Vh1 Classic did a Top 10 Front Men list. Curious what everyone thought of it. Dave was #4.

    1 - Jagger
    2 - Freddy Mercury
    3 - Robert Plant
    4 - Diamond Dave

(5 -9 might be a little out of order and I forgot 10)
    5 - Jim Morrisson
    6 - Bono
    7 - Springsteen
    8- Bowie
    9 or 10 Daltry

I think they did a decent job. Some people questioned where McCartney and Lennon were, but they were incredible musicians and I think this list was more showmanship plus talent. Any opinions?

On a side note, They did guitarists the other night and Eddie ranked behind Paige, Clapton and Hendrix. Alex was #8 on drummer list.

I watched all these shows as well. Everybody has their opinions on who is the best, including me. I was glad to see Dave, Eddie, and Alex represented on their respective lists. I was disappointed Sammy didn't crack the top 10 list of frontmen, but I understand they probably wouldn't put two VH singers on the list. I think Eddie is number one, but I don't have a problem if people put Hendrix ahead of him. Eddie could blow the doors off of Page and Clapton any day, even in their prime. I'm happy Alex is finally getting some credibility. I'm also happy to see Geddy Lee and Neil Peart of Rush placing high on the lists as well. Now, if I could just get a member of the Scorpions on one of those lists, then all my favorite bands would be represented.

I just don't think of Bruce Springsteen as a frontman.

Springsteen is the boss...period......but damn does he put on a great show! I honeslty think he deserves to be in that list...watch a couple of his DVDs...man do his shows look fun...

And I'm sorry but Steven Tyler deserves to be on that list a tad ahead of Dave and Bono and especially Ziggy Stardust...Steven Tyler might be the GREATEST front man of all time....just my opinion....

That top four list wasn't bad. Not sure about the rest tho. I woulda put Morrison and Daltry up there. And where the heck is Rob Halford and Klaus Meine??? (those are on my personal faves list I guess)

I always thought of Springsteen as a solo artist b/c even tho he has his E Street Band he's billed separate from them. Dunno, probably just me.

I agree. At the very least, Tyler should have been third behind Jagger and Plant.

Can't really argue with the list.

I have always felt Jagger is over rated, but I can see why people put him up there.

If you combine singing talent with frontman entertainment I have always thought Plant was the best in his prime. Great songwriter too, maybe the best total package of talent.

And no disrespect to Sam and not trying to start a flame war, but I don't think he belongs in the top ten. I don't think any up and coming front man has said to himself "wow, I want to be just like Sammy Hagar!" While many of the guys on that list have been copied by a host of other singers.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    That's a great top 4!!!

Of course, I'm biased towards Dave as being the best.

Bias here too. I'll give Mick top spot but Dave should be #2 if we're talking genuine front man skills.

Where's Sinatra and Presley? They fronted bands too, ya know.

that's a good list but here's my favorite top 10...

    1. Robert Plant
    2. Bon Scott
    3. David Lee Roth
    4. Geof Tate
    5. Angelo Moore
    6. Bono
    7. Chris Cornell
    8. J. Morrisson
    9. S. Tyler
    10. M. Jagger & F. Mercury for a tie
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

    Default Freddie

I think anybody that got the privilege to see Queen live would have to say Freddie Mercury is the greatest frontman of all time.
I saw Queen in 80 and 82. Freddie was amazing. Also watching his last hurrah at Live Aid on television was great. He stole the show.

    1. Freddie Mercury
    2. Roger Daltrey
    3. David Lee Roth
    4. Steven Tyler
    5. Mick Jagger
    6. Axl Rose
    7. Bruce Dickinson
    8. Robert Plant
    9. Ozzy
    10. Iggy Pop

Honorable mention: Ian Astbury, Dio, Peter Wolf, Rob Halford, Vince Neil.
