    Default Ed's new Wah

Does anybody have any information on Ed's new Wah? How is it different from a standard Cry Baby?

It will have pretty stripes on it, and say "EVH", which equates to about a 50-100% markup over a standard Cry Baby...

But if you are a "Tone-Chaser" you will certainly be willing to fork over the extra cheddar... After all, when I think of Eddie Van Halen, the 1st thing that comes to mind is "Wah Pedal"... Maybe it comes with a hole in the bottom plate so you can hang it off your cock like DLR?

Just being a sarcastic jerk, but seriously - I'm sure it will have some sort of modification besides the stripes... I hate Wah's... They just make me think of Kirk Hammett's gross overuse of them...

i just dont really understand this and i get alot of flack from other evh sites and maybe its just me. 10 to 12 yrs ago the way eddie talked about gear and how he was so nit picky and really didnt put his name on just anything, would you have ever thought you would see a evh wah? i mean seriously. people who have grown up knowing how this man was did you ever think you would see the day. hell maybe roland will introduce the sde-3000 evh model, with pretty stripes.

he doesn't make any money on the new albums, becuase there haven't been any, and won't be any. Only way to make himself money is through endorsements, and added his name to things.....

I think he's realized there really isn't any shame in putting your name on something that you use. For christ sakes, mxr has made a living off of people going out and buying those pedals just becuase eddie used them. Surprised he's waiting so long to do this.

Whatever it is, he should pick it, and throw it away. It's ruining his playing, such a sad crutch.

Dude, he's not hurting for cash. Back catalog sales alone probably net a cool $1 to $2 mil a year for EVH. And that's NOT even counting royalties from airplay on classic rock stations. So before any talk of merchandise, I'd estimate EVH makes $4 to $5 mil per year without doing ANYTHING, in his friggin sleep! So he really could pack up his overpriced gear and not try to rob guitar players the world over - he wouldn't be homeless, believe me.

I can't agree...I think Ed's use of it on Cabo and FUCK was real tasteful and cool to see him utilizing something new. I never saw him over utilize it or play it distastefully during those years. I thought it was kind of refreshing on Fuck and the Live RHRN cuts. But he didn't just fall back on it, I mean on Balance that was pretty much straight leads on there other than the Leslie.

I agree about the signature Wah though, especially in the wake of a Roth era VAN HALEN tour? If he was still with Sammy, or some shit, and still playing Cabo, and some of the FUCK songs...hell, why not? There's some real whores out there peddling wahs (no pun intended) that sound like shit - if Ed used it tastefully on a few cuts, sounds good to me. But the timing to do this is over the cuckoo's nest...Just like, ok he used the sustainer on a few tracks, but with tasteful restraint...then it became torrid love affair for him, and a horrid hate-hate affair for fans of his tone. Why the hell he's using a wah on a Roth era VH Tour? Fuck if I know...If the 90's on the original, kick that fucker on...if not, follow suit...I just think that's a poor professional decision considering he pretty much disowns that short time/amount of tracks he used a wah on, not to mention disowning that Gem of a Marshall everyone drools over.

I didnt mind when he used it during the hagar era tunes, but when I heard him use it on the solo to Ice Cream man on one of the rehersal videos I was not happy at all. Classic VH has nothing to do with any wah of any kind, and while he can obviously do whatever he wants, it is DEFINITELY a crutch now and has replaced the sustainer as the go to piece of gear to use to make mindless noodling sound deceptively cool for a second. Ditch it Ed, and while youre at it play the Frankenstrat for the whole show so you dont have the neck pickup to use for another crutch. His best stuff is humbucker and hands, period
