Through Sheer Force Of Personality, VH Covers "The Rover", By Led Zep...

Yup, this applies fairly true to David Lee Roth's concept of merely learning the "gist" of a song's lyric. Yet for those that have never heard this, there simply ain't nothing like a "garage band-like cover" of a classic Led Zeppelin tune performed by Van Halen.

The vid is stock footage of photos to accompany the soundtrack, yet what the hell?

    so good
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

Oh yeah...I have a CD of that whole performance!

They also played Sweet Emotion, Beer Drinkers and Hellraises, etc. as well as early versions of I'm the One, etc.

GREAT show from "Aeros Bogarts" in '76!!

Thanks for sharing that with us!
    It's Rock and Roll..enjoy the f*****ing ride!

Saw The Mighty VH Philly 10/3/07, my 23-year old wish fulfilled!

Also saw them in Philly MOR 1988..another great show!

Thanks for posting it, but it was actually painful for me. DLR proved he's no Robert Plant, Alex proved he's no John Bonham, Eddie proved he's worthy to be Jimmy's page boy, and Mike I can't judge at all.

No one is ever going to measure up to Led Zeppelin.

Uhhh...that's more or less the point of a cover tune. No one is exactly attempting to be the original band, ya know?

Have to disagree there. So often people are trying to imitate the original. Not pros when they make a song their own and release it, of course. I do realize that VH wasn't imitating Led Zeppelin, and their covers are usually fabulous improvements over the originals. I just think it's a cardinal sin to go messing with any Zep song.

Now, having said that, I would have thought it impossible that anyone would tinker with Kashmir and live. But P. Diddy managed to use the riff in Come with Me and the result was awesome. (Except for the part where he imitates Plant's scream - that was laughable.)

But I'm glad you posted the link. I wondered what VH would be like on a Led Zeppelin song, and now I know.
