Default Greatest all around athlete ever.

Who is the best all around athlete ever?

My vote goes for Bo Jackson. What a stud.

I believe he made the MLB All Star game and the Pro Bowl in the same year. I was at the Monday night game in Seattle when he ran right through Brian Bosworth.

Hands down, Muhammad Ali. A disciplined master of his body and sport in his prime and to this day, a globally recognized ambassador of goodwill and peaceful fellowship to all of mankind.

I know, the brutal sport of boxing and a man of peace are hardly congruent, yet anyone who was around at the time that followed what this man did for his sport, race relations and the general unity of a nation in a horrible period of our history, as well as his work in Africa, will openly salute the man and his achievements.

No, not all of his accomplishments were in the ring. So much the better.

He is definately number one in the video game world.

    1. Bo Jackson, Tecmo Super Bowl

Jackson was the first real-life athlete to be an All Star in two sports, but he made a bigger impact on pop culture than he did on the Raiders or the Royals. "I can't go a week without someone mentioning something about Tecmo Bowl," Jackson said in 2004. He could rack up 400 yards in a single game, even while running backwards for fifty. Forget Lawrence Taylor, forget Mike Singletary - an entire defense couldn't stop Tecmo Bo.

    This is hilarious.

We differ, as I do not limit him as merely being a "boxer". I also take into account the term "sportsman".

Don't get me wrong, I hear what you are saying. Yet it can get vague. There are arguments to be made for Michael Jordan, as well as certain horses. To limit someone by a sport opens up an entire "Pandora's Box" of speculation and recrimination. Are race drivers or golfers excluded? Are women judged equally or are allowances made? There are those that would opine that certain porn stars fall into the category of "athelete", along with certain musical performers like Neil Peart of Rush. What about astronauts?

You see where I'm going, and I offer no hard feelings about it. It's truly a subjective thing to decide, and ultimately it may turn out to be an "apples and oranges" type of argument, like who is the best guitarist? (And no, it is not Ed Van Halen.)

I'll get out of this now, as the furor begins.

Possibly the greatest football player.....no question the greatest lacrosse player.....lettered in basketball at Syracuse as well....and was offered a minor league contract with the Yankees....

    What about Jackie Robinson?......

We all know how great a baseball player he was.....but that was just the sport he choose to play......he lettered in 4 sports at UCLA.....was an All-American halfback.....twice led the Pac Ten in scoring as a point guard.....and won a NCAA title in the long jump.....

Jim Thorpe was the "Bo Jackson of his day", as well.

    dave winfield .

Winfield grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, earning a full scholarship to the University of Minnesota, where he starred in basketball and baseball for the Golden Gophers. His college basketball coach was a young Bill Musselman, who went on to serve as a head coach in the American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association and would later refer to Winfield as the best rebounder he ever had. Winfield's 1972 Minnesota team won a Big 10 basketball championship, the school's first in 53 years. During the 1972 season, he also was involved in a brawl when Minnesota played Ohio State. [1]

After hitting and pitching the Gophers to the College World Series in 1973, where as a pitcher he was named MVP[2], he was drafted by the San Diego Padres, the Minnesota Vikings as a tight end despite not playing college football, the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, and the Utah Stars of the ABA. He is one of only two men ever drafted in three different pro sports (the other being Dave Logan) and the only man to be drafted by four leagues. In 1974, as a publicity stunt, the World Hockey Association assigned Winfield's rights to the Minnesota Fighting Saints, based out of St. Paul.

Muhammad Ali for sure. He was a heavyweight who moved around the ring like a lightweight, he had amazing handspeed like a lightweight, and he was a smart fighter. He was able to adapt when he got older, and still beat the top fighters of his era by using different tactics, like the rope-a dope. He also had a great defence, knockout power and a great chin.

He also had a great personality outside the ring, and he just as entertaining to listen to as watching him fight sometime He also stood up for what he believed in. No matter what. He lost his title and didn't fight for 3 years, because he didn't believe in the Vietnam war, even when most of the people in the US were against him for it at the time.
