Default Vote For VH For Best Concert of 2007!

The Holiday issue of Playboy magazine has their music poll section where readers can vote. They list Van Halen as one of the candidates for best concert of the year. Let's vote for VH! This is another good reason to pick up Playboy magazine besides Kim K on the cover.

That's kind of how I feel about the 10/1 show- don't get me wrong, it was a great event, but I also got to see Rush and the Police this year, and I'd have to give my vote to Sting and the boys.. they blew the doors off the VH show..

Sure, and lemme tell you why:

    1. their songs were DEAD ON, still after all these years
    2. Sting's voice was still DEAD ON, after all these years
    3. Sting still remembered ALL THE LYRICS, after all these years
    4. the sound was 10x clearer than the VH show I saw- you can even hear in the VH boot from that night that DLR's mic and Eddie's equipment constantly had distortion, screeches, and other issues
    5. the Police show didn't have equipment on stage with every piece saying "made by one of the band members and it's all for sale- please buy me"
    6. Sting had his son on the tour too- but he was an opening act and NOT a replacement for one of the original band members

Sorry, I have loved VH all my life and couldn't wait for this "reunion" to come. But once it did, it had SELL OUT written all over it. I saw them a month ago and I still have mixed feelings about what I saw...

    Again, Police get my vote.

Oh, and for the record, I even paid MORE to see VH than I did to see the Police!!

Rush was better and Genesis was just as good as Van Halen.

Not saying VH was a bad show, just has some mighty competition!

I have to give it to the Velvet Revolver/Alice In Chains double-bill. Although Beatallica runs a close second and may be the tightest band I saw this year..and that's saying a lot since I also saw Rush.

I guess it's all a matter of persprctive. I saw The Police at Giants Stadium...spent $50 apiece for tickets from someone outside with an extra pair and felt ripped off. The sound sucked! It was like listening to a transistor radio in your living room.

And as for the songs being dead on? They changed the arrangements to over 75% of what they played...and it only truly worked on one song. Worse still, they were extremely fucking boring.

I wanted to go see them again the Garden, but after that show, i just said NO.

VH on the other hand...I saw the first night in Philly and frankly they were amazing in every sense of the word. One of the best shows I've ever seen. I saw them in NJ this past weekend and it was good, but didn't live up to the previous show because of sound problems and because of my seats, 2nd row in front of Eddie, his now infamous flip-out was a little, um...distracting! Thank God DLR and Alex kept it all together to save the show from completely falling apart.

    Genesis!!!!!!!!!!!! Really!!!!!!!!!????????????Genesis!!!!!!!!!!!!???? ????????
Did some cool band take over the name when I wasn't paying attention?
Is this the same lame ass band I remember from when I was a kid like you?

Rush rocks, but not the way VH does. I love Neil Peart but c'mon people... and the Police? Now I didn't see the show, but that was never a band that liked to play it the way it is on the record. That's cool they got back together, I dig em. But compete with VH in concert!!!??? Please

I didn't have the opportunity to see Genesis this year (I need my arms and legs and stuff) but they are just as tight as ever. Phil has "lost it" a little and doesn't seem to interact with the crowd like he used to (he used to be extremely funny and playful with the audience back in the day.) However, you don't hear about Mike Rutherford playing out of key and throwing crap at his guitar tech either.. so.

As for Rush, you can not deny their talent and musicianship, however, I found my mind wandering at times during their show this year.

Amen to that....at least I saw 2 other shows that will help take that crappy night out of my mind....
Imagine a world without Eddie Van Halen.

"From the moment David Lee Roth appeared at the top of a giant runway that snaked through the Oklahoma City Ford Center audience Tuesday night, he wore the one thing that told every Van Halen fan that everything was right with the world. It was a maniacal Cheshire cat smile announcing happiness and enthusiasm that cannot be faked. Not only was the old band back together, it was thriving."
