Nasty song aimed at the pre-teen/teen pop music listeners...

With just enough radio-edits, this song is in high rotation on Top 40 pop radio... All the 12 year olds love it! Of only the other parents would listen and look up the lyrics...

    #1 song for seven weeks...

I've known this song since August. It is, and I'm not even kidding, the only song people talk about. It's gotten to the point where it seems as if this is the only song people have ever heard.

Does this mean I like it? Haha, that's laughable. I do whatever I can to get away from it. My friends are like "OMGZ, you don't know, like, the dance, LOLZ!?" Of course I don't, because I don't give a shit.

And I'm all for exposing things to kids at a young age (my folks did it to me and I like to think my maturity level is much higher than the typical Sophomore in high school), but shame on the industry for letting THIS get airplay and eventually having kids figure out exactly what this shit means. This is just ridiculous...

So yes, I naturally have a hatred for the song, since while I could be listening to VH on my iPod, some dumbass will come up to me asking "OMGZ, is like, Soulja Boy on there!?" It's gotten pretty miserable around here...

And this is different from "You Shook Me All Night Long" when we were kids in what way? It's a catchy, bouncy tune, the lyrics of which taken out of context of the tune are pretty strong.

Do I think the net result of this will be a generation of young misogynists? Hardly. It's a tad too late to get concerned about that. Or am I the only one to realize that the value and respect that human beings hold for each other is already at an all time low?

You Shook Me All Night Long

    She was a fast machine
    She kept her motor clean
She was the best damn woman I had ever seen
    She had the sightless eyes
    Telling me no lies
Knockin' me out with those American thighs
    Taking more than her share
    Had me fighting for air
She told me to come but I was already there

    'Cause the walls start shaking
    The earth was quaking
    My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -

    Shook me all night long

    Working double time
    On the seduction line
She was one of a kind, she's just mine all mine
    She wanted no applause
    Just another course
Made a meal out of me and came back for more
    Had to cool me down
    To take another round
Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing

    'Cause the walls were shaking
    The earth was quaking
    My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -

    Shook me all night long

The reason why I hate living in this time at my age with this shit stain called music. It's just terrible where I live with all this ghetto shit I see everyday. I would rather just listen to VH, Pantera, Fear Factory, or something that is worth my 2 GB of music on my mp3 player. Everyone talks about the Soulja Boy's dance which looks fucking gay and it drives me nuts. Ahhhhhhh... got that rant off of my chest.

Edit: I shouldn't be even calling this music as said this forum is non-music

Hey, do not get all pissed at me, particularly for pointing out an obvious truth:

It's a song about sex, or is this somehow being taken as new and revolutionary? And so were the songs we happened to grow up listening to. Yup, the language is more explicit, and so is fucking MAD magazine today.

As a parent, instead of whining about the "music" out there, why not have a talk or two, let alone perhaps never stop talking with your kids? I certainly didn't stop being involved, Tipper. One need not form the PMRC if one is in touch with their own kids to begin with.

As the hit or miss Dennis Miller once said: "If Gene Simmons is in a position to influence your child, then you're not doing your fucking job as a parent."

I've not much more to add.

Well I guess music scene at this time of your age must differ drastically between the States and Britain. It would probably drive me nuts if I'd have to hear rap everywhere.

But for the record you might want to listen to Divine Heresy, it's *new* Dino's from Fear Factory band.

Yea, I've actually never heard that song. I feel like I'm blissfully ignorant of today's pop culture, even though I am at an age where I should be totally engulfed in it. I listen to basically all 70s and 80s rock/metal. Unfortunately, that kind of music is way past its prime, but I still really enjoy it. I'm sure that rap song has totally taken over my high school, but I don't get into that crap.

I've listened to Divine Heresy. Decent band, but I prefer to listen to Burton's music over Dino. Yeah it's not that great here musically. I would rather live in Europe then here if it was all about the music.

never heard this song in my life but after 10 seconds of listening to clip I realized I never want to. It's just not my cup of tea. I'm with chef though, it's really not that big a deal and not a whole lot different than the "down on a muffin" crap that we've all been listening to for years. Bottom line is the generation before will always get outraged at what the generation after is listening to/watching/doing. No matter how cool and hip we want to think we are, we're not. Just like our parents getting on to us about the shit we listened to not being "music" and having to listen to the "kids today...I swear this kind of crap didn't go on when WE were kids!" bullshit; we are now rolling out the same tired shit onto the kids today. If you doubt me, start reading through any number of threads and you'll see yourselves doing it.

Fuck it...so 12 year olds are listening to crappy music...it's just the natural progression of things. Don't feed the machine by becoming the type of people you thought you were so unlike when you were kids. It's not time to take a stand. It's not time to become your parents. Just roll with it, otherwise you sound like a bunch of hypocrite pansies. It's really hard to come off as "cool" when you're celebrating the total awesomeness of all the headbanger/hard rock stuff of our youths while spouting off all the same lines your parents gave you when you were a kid about the kids today.

Lmfao at your sig dude . To be honest I don't mind occasional rap every now and again, but it's more old school stuff like Pete Rock, Cypres Hill and Aceyalone. Then again I listen to about anything from classic to jazz to ambient, even if rock is the core of my playlist.

Fuck that youtube song in the original post, but there are really loads of kick-ass modern bands. Bullet For My Valentine/August Burns Red/From Autumn To Ashes/Glassjaw/All Shall Perish and such.

I'm not much for rap period. I don't care if anyone listens to rap and likes it, but when I have to listen to it or continual jabbering about rap, kind of pisses me off. I'm more of the metal/rock guy, but I however listen to video game music as the oddest things of all. Let's see here... 23 hours of video game music. Some of it's pretty good and well orchestrated like Ratchet and Clank. Had to listen to part of Soulja Boy during my spirit week announcements, but it fails in comparison when my school used Party Like A Rockstar *cough*right*cough* for rockstar day on the announcements .
