Default Walmart has HD-DVD players for $98 bucks today only!!!

    Hey,

If any of you guys or gals have wanted to move into the HD-DVD realm then today is the day to do it. Walmart is having a one day only sale on the Toshiba HD-A2 players. It is an in-store only deal. Only problem with the A2's is that there is no 1080p output. Kind of useless if you are looking for TRUE HD.

Here are the reviews on the HD-A2 players:

    Thunder Mountain Brewing Company
    Owner and Brewmaster

Bottled: 2010 Imperial Bastard Stout (9.5% ABV)
Bottled: 2011 Thunder Mountain Pale Ale (5.5% ABV)
Fermenting: 2011 Thunder Mountain Irrish Ale (4.9% ABV)

Screw Walmart. You can buy much better quality HD DVD players for only $10-$15 more at Best Buy any time of the year.

I'd rather pay a little more money if it means the guy serving me doesn't have to work 3 jobs to make ends meet.

Yea, most of you're points are true and valid.

Restaurant and fast food places are business's that benefit from Wal Mart.

They are like those little fish that hover around a bigger fish.

    At least in these parts.

the Walmart in my area has a McDonalds in it so I'm not even sure about that.

I understand the popularity of Walmart and I'm a bit of a hypocrite as I've shopped there a couple of times. I'd shop there alot more if they increased their employees wages but I'm not holding my breath on that. When one of the Canadian Walmarts tried to unionize they just closed the store.

It's just kind of sad that the world's biggest retailer pays their employees peanuts - but that's probably why their the world's biggest retailer.

I used to be passionately opposed to walmart and everything I thought they stood for. And although I'm more than a little concerned by how big it has gotten and how much effect it has on the larger national and international economy, I don't get hung up on the whole "they pay their employees shit" or the "they put smaller mom and pops out of business" bit anymore. Mom and pops generally have just as shitty service as big corporate retailers. Walmart was a mom and pop too but they did things better and were more creative so now they're are doing better than all the others. Can't really fault them for that. As for the employee thing...well...there's one way to make sure you're never a victim of walmart's lousy pay, crappy hours and poor benefits: work hard BEFOREHAND so you don't have to settle for working as an hourly employee at walmart. Besides, hourly gigs in retail suck no matter where you go.

As for the quality of their merchandise...it's basically the same merch you get anywhere else and it is legitimately cheaper.

    Here's what I don't like about walmart:

    1. The general class of people who work there and shop there. I go there begrudgingly. It's really one of the most unpleasant things I do but their toiletries, paper goods, and cleaning products are much cheaper than at the grocery store so I endure it. It's generally dirty and full of low-class people who's children stink and are barefoot. They're loud and obnoxious. The employees are just as miserable as I'd expect them to be. However, almost every time I go to walmart I'll see someone like me, trying not to drown in the sea of filth and trash and they'll look up and we'll share this look of "hey, we'll get out of here soon, just remember how much we're saving."

    2. The fact that they're expanding into banking. They already dictate who makes what. They already control a disconcerting amount of the retail business worldwide. They already are the country's number one employer. That's some serious clout. Now that they are into banking, well...it's problematic to say the least. That's a lot of power for one group of people to have. They've basically created a situation where they serve as the "company store" for the country. How healthy is the american economy? Well, ask walmart.

Those are the two things that bother. Like I said, the mom and pop crap, that's over-romanticized good old days crap and the employees...well...if walmart is the only job you can get...well you have bigger problems. Working hourly at walmart SHOULDN'T pay very well.

Basically I used to hate walmart for being "big." It's easy to hate the winner. It's easy to hate the rich kid in school. If I had my choice I'd never step foot in walmart again but I'm not in a position to pay premium prices for a lot of products.

Bottom line though, if all the people who say "fuck walmart" in truth did not shop at walmart, walmart would not have become as big as they are. It's fashionable to hate walmart. It's kind of like a badge of pseudo-intellectualism and populist beliefs. Watching people talk about how much people hate walmart and the social ills they are responsible for while they wait in line at starbucks and have a new york times under their arm is like watching two retarded dogs sniff each others asses...except I don't think the dogs are hypocrites.

those that hate Walmart are in the minority - we're just pretty loud about it.
