"Set Your Clocks Back"-No, Really, This Weekend...

Time change again folks, and also a good opportunity to check the batteries in your smoke detectors. And thanks to the new legislation, DST returns three weeks earlier this coming spring.

Time to 'fall back' on Saturday night

    November 02, 2007
    Plaindealer staff report

Don't forget to set your clock back one hour before you go to bed this Saturday night, as we "fall back" out of daylight saving time and resume standard time.

Daylight saving was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin while serving as an American delegate in Paris in 1784. At the age of 78, Franklin wrote "An Economical Project," a discourse on the thrift of natural versus artificial lighting. Today, nations around the world use a variation of his concept to conserve energy and more fully enjoy the benefits of daylight. President Richard Nixon signed into law the Daylight Saving Time Energy Act on Jan. 4, 1974.

On Aug. 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which changed change dates for Daylight Saving Time. Beginning in 2007, DST now begins at 2 a.m. local time on the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November.

That means as of 1:59 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, clocks fall back to 1 a.m. Next spring, clocks spring forward from 1:59 a.m. Sunday, March 9, to 3 a.m.

Daylight Saving Time is not observed in Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. However, the Navajo Nation does participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, even in Arizona, due to its large size and location in three states.

I hate falling back. I can't stand it getting dark at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Me too. But I do love getting that extra hour of sleep on Sunday and the feeling that it should be later that it really is...

Car accidents rise 10% during the first week of daylight savings time.

Does that mean there will be 10% less accidents next week?
A little more volume in the headphones please.

    LMAO at your title chef!!!

I don't mind this extension of the DST but I think they should consider moving the fall date forward a week. Halloween was just weird this year. I bet they never thought of that when they picked the date.

This is such a great time of year. I love when it's freezing in the morning, cold all day, and dark at 4:30. Really makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning!

Yes I am the Unabomber's brother. I live in a log cabin and have no running water. The message you see is a figment of your imagination....

All I meant was that I live in Arizona. We don't change clocks here....Tick, tick tick...

i actually DO love this time of year. Waking up to that freezing cold air, having it overcast for most of the day and getting dark by 6 pm only to drop another 15 degrees by midnight...MAN! I get energized just thinking about it. The summers are oppressive. The humidity can't be escaped, the sun beats down on me. It puts me in an angry mood and makes me want to stay home all day and night. But come the crisp winter air, wow...my creativity spikes...I write my best music during this time of year. I love spending time outdoors, driving late at night with the windows down and the heater on...just an awesome awesome time.

Thanks for the reminder Chef. With this stupid cold I forgot all about it. At least I can talk a little now, I was pretty bad yesterday. So that extra hour of sleep was great for me!

But I do hate this time of year with the time change. Don't getta see too much sun whenst trapped in an office all day.
