    Default Mean Streets

Just watched clip of Mean Streets from this tour. Why did they cut out the 3rd verse and chorus after the solo? Makes no sense to me.

Mean Street is the one tune I wish they'd have never played. It sounded twenty times better with Gary in '98. Intro was cleaner. Verses were better. Eddie actually finished the solo - this tour he ignores the last few licks out of laziness. The breakdown was longer and funkier. And the outro was better. Besides the fact that Dave can't fucking sing the song anymore and screws around with the verses too much.

It's a shame because it's a great song. I think they ruin it this time.

I dunno and perhaps you're right? Personally, I like Romeo's Delight a lot better.

Oh great, we have another one of them in camp...

You know... One of them that doesn't like Dave whilst basking as a Van Halen fan.

Seriously and perhaps you could sing it better than the man who not only wrote it (lyrically of course but with some peeps, they'll immediatedly declare me a "Rothtard" by my comment stating that I said Dave wrote the music, lmao) but who's utilizing his vocal tone and styling along with his age, no?

Although I never cought the Cherone tour, which song was the crowd pleaser (or the one you liked the most?) where Gary bent over and Eddie pretended to anally sodomize him with his guitar neck? Again, didn't see the tour but have seen the youtoobz. Was that a highlight for you and was it a longer, funkier, breakdown to the better outro?

    Hey, your words, not mine.

Haven't seen any versions of Mean Street from this tour, but the Gary Cherone version from Sidney, Australia is very good. He captured the groove and swaggar of the original version very well. Not to mention, Ed, Mike, and Alex really rip on it as well.

I agree. I saw the 1998 tour four times, and Mean Street was insanely good on that tour.

I recall offering up a pretty big smile when I watched the Sydney '98 live special on MTV back in '98 and heard them kick into "Mean Street." Songs like that were missed during the Sam era.

I also wondered at the Minneapolis show why Dave cut out his words during the breakdown--the signature words that EVERYONE always remembers.

Hey Dope - I'm not in your camp. I'm in my own fucking camp and the 25 times I've seen Van Halen in various incarnations over the years gives me the right to judge this tour and its songs however I damn please.

Fact is, I'm not even going to dignify your assertion that I'm basking as a Van Halen fan while hating Dave. I think Dave's great. The 600 bucks I already have wrapped up in this tour isn't enough to show my support, I suppose.

None of which has anything to do with the fact that Mean Street was far more listenable in 1998 than it is now for many reasons - most of which I outlined in my original post. Eddie's not playing it as well, they shortened it and Dave can't nail the verses. It's weak.

Yeah Dave wrote it and it's his song. Big deal. It sounded better in '98.

Romeo Delight, I'm the One and Somebody Get Me a Doctor, on the other hand, sound insanely good on this tour with Dave (as well they should) and blow the '98 versions away.

    "Dope?"

    LMAO!!!

    Not very nice.

K, after your explanation I'll retract my initial comment and offer an apology.

Still, I've never been called a "dope" before in my entire lifetime. That's funny.

    Have a nice day.
