Default popping sound on my combo

I was playing earlier, just turned it back on to screw around, and I'm getting a popping sound from the speakers...sounds like popcorn popping...are my tubes shorting out or something. I just shut it down, and hoping that you guys can let me know what the hell is the issue.

    thanks

without looking at it and not knowing the state of the tubes or testing them. i would suggest a full retube.

when there was a popping sound on my combo it was one of the preamp tubes
I changed them all and it went away, of coarse that was my problem and I have no way knowing if yours is the same

i would go wiht a jj tubes 5150 combo retube kit or use this combonation.

    or

use a JJ ECC83S for V1 and Sovtek 12AX7LP for the other 12AX7's and Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC power tubes. or just 5 sovteks for the preamps. the above is what soldano uses in the slo100 and i thought about trying this combination in my 5150 head.

I've had a lot of luck with Electro-Harmonix tubes in my 5150s.

Try putting your guitar cable jack in your mouth. Seems to work for Ed.

Some folks here have posted before that Groove Tubes don't work well with the 5150s. The commonly recommended are JJ and E-H.
