Default Anthony 'Totally Fine' Without Van Halen

Think this is new but lock this if it's posted elsewhere and I didn't notice. I have to say I'm enjoying the current tour but it would be ten times better with MA on board- and I'm a Roth fan all the way. A class act and crucial component in CVH.

    http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003662282

"Michael Anthony is getting his post-Van Halen career going in earnest.

After his acrimonious and controversial ouster from the hard rock group he helped to found -- which is currently on the road with original frontman David Lee Roth and guitarist Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang in Anthony's place -- the bassist is once again riding a hard-working sidecar to second Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar.

He's leading his own trio, Mad Anthony Express, which plays a selection of "more obscure" Van Halen tracks, including "DOA" and "Light Up the Sky," and some cover songs. On some nights Anthony and Hagar -- the only VH members to attend the group's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in March -- bring out their Los Tres Gusanos to play early Hagar material, and at every show the duo plays a set of Hagar-era Van Halen material as the Other Half.

"I'm on stage for a good part of the night," Anthony tells Billboard.com. "I'm just happy to still be out there playing. I'm having a great time doing it. It's not like we need the money; we can just go out there and party with the fans and we have a great time doing it."

Anthony says that Mad Anthony's Express, which currently features guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer John "JD" Douglas -- both from Hagar's Wabos band -- could spur him to launch his own group or recording project. "Possibly," he says. "After this tour I'm gonna check into doing some different things, doing some writing with different people. I've got a lot of friends I've made in this business. I've thought about doing something where I'd use some different people, put some original stuff or some covers stuff together and put my own twist on it. We'll see."

As for Van Halen, Anthony says he's not going out of his way to keep tabs on the group's tour but that "people tell me things, and I heard the tour's been fine." He admits he was "bummed out for a little bit" after being booted from the band -- and especially after he was temporarily replaced from album cover images on the group's Web site -- but that he's largely over it.

"I'm totally fine with it now 'cause it is what it is," Anthony explains. "There's no use dwelling on it or whining about it. The fans know the band. They know what we've done, and I'm really proud of the history of the band. But I'm focusing on having fun and doing what Sam and I are out doing right now. As long as I keep that perspective on it, that's good.""

    it's not a stretch.

The kid is playing his parts quite well and vocals arent missed by me either. I say good luck with Sammy. Nothing harsh to say...his position has been filled.

No kidding...especially since Ed and Al have always been the rhythm section, and now they've got such a jammin' bass player who lays down such a groove that it allows Ed to just move in and out.

Hey Lefty, if you like seeing teenagers onstage so much, I've got a few bands from the local high school to recommend. They rock, kinda.

Wolfgut wouldn't even EXIST if it wasn't for Michael Anthony joining the band. I highly doubt Van Halen with Mark Stone would've gotten signed to Warners Bros. And if they didn't get signed, Eddie ain't dippin' his wick in one of the hottest TV starlets of the 70's. No Mike = No Wolfgut.

Now, I am as excited as anyone for these shows, but MA position isn't "filled" at all. The kid does ok, period. They could take Wolf off stage and it wouldn't make an ounce of difference.

    Negative Ghostrider............

It's not about just playing the bass or singing. It's about the attitude, the JD bass the person that was a part of the original VH who kicked ass on stage.

Nothing agaist Wolfie, but he just stands there, not exactly the presence of a great bass player like MA.

    Just my opinion of course.

i hope your time machine works better going backwards than it did helping you to predict the future.

    Darby before the tour:

"He'll (Wolfie) tank out for sure and the boo birds will be in great attendance. Did you see what happened to Chad Pennington this past weekend in New York? He was cheered for getting hurt!! I feel bad for Wolfgut. Mike is so beloved, Wolfgut's got no chance. There is a whole new animal sitting in the audience these days. A scathing, cynical, Beavis and Butthead mentality more than ever. They are gonna tear him apart."

VH hasn't moved on, VH has moved back. Problem is it seems this new version revisiting the past isn't doing justice to what the Mighty once was...

But glad to hear the Admiral of the Mike Navy is sailing towards the high seas again!
