    Default EVH

Before anyone responds to this, please listen to Human's Bing, Respect the Wind, Crossing Over, Me Wise Magic, Can't get this Stuff no More, Little Guitar's(Intro) Catherine & Rise. I mean, REALLY listen.

With some of the things I've heard Ed play this year & wonder:

These are fucking great guitar tunes, if not the greatest-Period. One of my many favorite moments in =EVH= history are: Little Guitar's (Intro & song from the million boots I have-specifically, the U.S. Fest, Largo & hints here & there w/ the never-forgotten '5150' mid-solo in LWAN & throughout the 5150 tour--The Oakland show that teased us die-hard's with things to come is up there too.

As much as I will never get sick of Eruption or Cathedral, how much would his solo improve, especially to finish with the intro to the Pretty Woman lead-in?????

I remember the many years of him going off on Mean Street before hammering the intro of Cathedral or a variation there of. I mention this only for discussion purposes b/c the motherfucker's who are true Halen fans, most of which have been here since day 1, know what I'm talking about if you have seen this tour.

Is HE trying to do this time around? The only thing I can think of is that he's trying to promote his new guitar w/ shit even the old-school fans can't quite grasp. Is it us?

I've expressed my opinion of his performance from Philly & since then, it's either Ed brought me to tears or the dude was just plain 'noisy' & 'loud.'

Fortunately I saw him when he was on, sort of. I still say his brother & Dave MADE that show, but I also believe Ed is really trying every night, As a wanna-be guitarist, I don't give a shit either way when I'm jamming ALL the albums, including the 40+ boots I have (especially fucking Largo '82)

    Just some fodder for discussion........

Only b/c of the negative reviews since I saw them on the 1st. I mean seriously, especially with Dave, EVH loves to intro, mid or end with a bluesy riff. I have been listening to speculation for 25 years on how he needs a quality producer to put his pieces of magic together--Ted Templeton, Don Landee & the most important influences outside of his Dad, Sam, Dave, Clapton, MICHAEL ANTHONY , his brother & the GREAT Ed Leffler (who was their manager. friend, confidant & #1 reason Sam & the boys split after his passing.)

Does this make sense to you 35+ (age) crazy motherfuckers like me?

or do you think that because they are playing so many old songs that that takes away form material for a 10 min. solo

i remember (vaguely) in 1984 when he solo'd going: oh thats from THAT and thats from THAT but on this tour, he cant throw in the tapping intro to mean streets in the solo because they're playing it.... etc.

i thought ed's general attitude this tour was awesome, but i thought the solo was bizarre.... almost forced, as in, HE doesnt even want to do it, but feels compelled.... because he looks like he is having so much fun wailing within the context of the songs.... and then gets to the solo and rolls around the floor making feedback noise and such....

i know the new / newer fans just loved hearing the eruption bit during the solo, but if they took it out of the set in its present form i dont think that would be a negative....

i think you have brought up a valid point

Thanks! I agree that his solo's have lost the 'emotion' they once carried. Still great, no doubt but Jesus when I think of some of his solo's pre-98

Eddie has always said that he hates the guitar solo he "has to do", that it's kinda like masterbating for 10 minutes.

Is this a song about Bing Crosby?

You know what, if he doesn't want to do it... only do it for 3 minutes.. play eruption and get out. His solo on LWAN is legendary. I have never seen a better guitar solo from anyone anywhere. (Ed has never had one better before or after it) and it has nothing to do with Dave or Sam.

It is too bad that he can't solo like that anymore... but the dude is old and has been through the ringer. I am glad that he is at least RIPPING throughout the songs. As long as he can do that they can and should keep touring, but then the solos need to be cut alltogether or drastically shortened.
Lets just throw a pound of weed in the fire place, f@#% it!

no one could say it better f'n'r!

question? how much of this solo being "less than stellar" is due to diminishing physical skills / abilities vs. mental boredom?

because there are 2 ed's at each show -the one ripping through the songs like his life depends on it, and the one rolling on the floor doing feedback noises

Hopefully he's better at beating his meat, because his solo the last two tours has been fucking uber-shit-noise.

As soon as I read Catherine and Rise I stopped reading, because these are the worst tunes Eddie has ever written if your talking about great guitar playing. You can tell the man is drunk he has a a horrible tone from his amp and his fingers. These songs suck period! Just like all porno music!!! Remember everyone laughs at porno soundtracks!

Having said that I think Edward is the greatest rock guitarist of all time. PERIOD!

Maybe Ed and Wolfie should do a piece together maybe a 5 minute jam or something. To me it seems like Ed is just doin the solo cause the fans want it, he seems happiest when the whole band is playing and the interaction with Wolfie makes him smile the most. This way Wolfie can show off a little without all the pressure and focus on him, just a thought

True, time doesn't stand still for no one, and everyone changes, but Muff, have you lost your mind? NO ONE is better than Eddie and NO ONE ever will be!! The feeling he communicates through his playing alone is nothing short of AMAZING!!!!!
