    When were you hooked??

Since the St Louis show has been postponed I have been throwing out some negative comments about the guys due to my frustration. Time for some positive energy.... When did the Van Halen sound reach out and grab you by the throat and not let go? In early 1979 I had a teacher that let us bring in records and play a few tracks on Friday afternoon. I had never heard of Van Halen and I brought my favorite record at the time, Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo...My buddy brought the VHI album in and I was like who the hell is this?? He bypassed RWTD and said listen to this...From the first crunch chord in Eruption....well...you all know... It was SO different and in your face than anything out at the time. Disco was huge still and FM radio was playing Boston and the Eagles every five seconds so music was bland then like it is now. Major attitude and the chops to go with it set them apart from everyone out at the time. That is how I got into the greatest band in R&R history. What's your story??

I was 5 in 1978, and my parents got VHI, I heard "Jamie's Crying", hooked on them ever since. I used to take my VH albums to ballet class with me (my teacher was a big fan), and she would play VH while we did our stretches and warm up.

Been hooked on Ed since 81.

I was nine years old and saw the video for Jump and thought they were really cool. Someone bought me 1984 for my 10th b-day and have been hooked ever since.

In 1984 when my parents got cable and I saw the video for Jump on MTV. Saw them in concert that summer and I've been hooked ever since.

Sitting in the woods in our neighborhood with friends smoking a J in 8th grade and one of the guys put a Diver Down cassette in the box.

My dad bought me Balance as a bday present the year it came out, making me a 10-year-old little Mish. I think it's been my number one album for about 11 years since then so that speaks for itself.

My first exposure was 1984...not bad...but then I made friends with a guy who had an older, more "in-the-know" brother...he pointed to the non-single tracks like Top Jimmy and Drop Dead Legs...

By that time VH was in full on Hagar mode. I bought OU812 and thought it sucked. Gave them another shot when FUCK came out and LOVED it...so I started rewind...went back to the beginning and started dissecting every single track. Atomic Punk did it for me. By the time the Best Of tracks and Humans Being came out I was full on sold on Ed's ambition and genius. VHIII only solidified it. I think more than anything, VHIII cemented the band's and the man's talent in my mind and heart.

My first exposure to them was in 1978. My sister got the VH1 8-track from her boyfriend and when she wasn't home I got to lay on the livingroom floor with my head between the speakers and listen to it. I was 4. But it wasn't until my family moved and across the street were 2 brothers that loved Van Halen. I can remember listening to the radio with them and the radio station was playing a six pack of VH. I remember hearing ATCWR and EBWS than Unchained. That was when I was hooked. It was 1981. My mom went out and got me my first VH album Fair Warning. I've been hooked ever since.

Oh man...I got hooked around '82. I was in seventh grade and I received Diver Down for Christmas (I had been borrowing the (Oh) Pretty Woman single from the Public Library up until receiving the album). That was the album that started it for me. Song wise it was Little Guitars.

From that point on and to this very day, I have been hooked on all things Van Halen.

Back in 78 when my buddy put on Van Halens debut album, I was hooked by the time Jamies cryin' was played. Strange but true I can visualize that day very clearly - a cool memory no doubt...

1978. I bought VH1 on recommendation, never having heard anything. Put the needle down, heard the beginning of RWTD and was absolutely floored. By the time I got to ATBL, I was convinced that I had never heard or would ever hear anything as heavy as that. Eddie's guitar tone, in particular, was an epiphany.

While making love to my gf she turned on black and blue. No joke. We stopped so I could listen to that guitar. Peace.

Late 1983. My bro had VH 1 on 8-track and got Diver Down for X-mas. I liked what I heard. Then came all the media stuff with 1984 which made me dig around everywhere for all of their stuff.

I still get chills when I see that bi-plane flying across the screen at the beginning of the Panama video. As much as this band has killed me over the last 12 years, I'll still never forget the joy they've given me over the years (with both Sam & Dave). Very few things make me smile as much as VH.

The first time I heard Van Halen was when they opened for Black Sabbath in 1978. I immediately bought their debut album the very next day. Been a VH fan ever since.
