Default I'm the One from 1998..Don't Be Afraid...WATCH THIS!

I think....this is the best I have seen Ed play in any video....even the 1978 vids have a hard time competing with this...I'm sorry but that's my opinion...just look at the way Ed plays that first solo...it's like he just found out his guitar has been sleeping with his wife and he is wringing it's neck....that's of course if a guitar could sleep with somebody....UNBELIEVABLE! Just focus on Ed.....and if it's a double post....I'm sorry....but this had to be seen again....

    Wow! That is incredible.

Gary made it over two minutes into the song before doing an embarrassingly stupid stage move!

    Sounds better than 2007.
I went to the 2007 CT show and was not impressed with Eddie or the sound.

Gary should get lots of credit for his effort on that tour. To my ears the 2007 version is better just because the original singer on vinyl is actually singing it and doing a good job, but I cannot argue that Ed was just absolutely ferocious on that tour.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I'm from Gary's hometown and I've seen him perform in a lot of small clubs over the years. His stage moves aren't for everybody, but I think he is really an exciting performer. You never really know what he is going to do once he gets on a stage. I saw him play with his band Tribe of Judah at a club in Boston in 2001. At one point he jumped off the stage and ran up the stairs to the balcony, he then climbed over the wall and jumped onto a long pipe attached to the ceiling and monkey climbed the pole over the crowd. He was dangling there for a few seconds and then let go and fell about 25 feet to the floor and landed on his feet. He then made his way through the crowd and jumped back on stage and started singing again. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen at a concert.

No doubt its a good example of Ed ripping it up later in his career, but the chirpy sounding metal picks he used on that tour kill it for me, and take away a lot of the dynamics in his playing that he usually has.

Yeah, the metal pick does take away some of the dynamics but WOW! Nobody can hold a candle to Ed's playing in 98!

Sure he's playing great, but this is like 75% the speed that they're playing it now. I bet if he played slower this tour, he'd make less mistakes.

maybe your stadium has bad sound, i've heard they've had sounds problems with some of the arenas.

I'm waiting till december 5th row 36 gm place, man i'll be so choked if its bad man.

I also saw VH the 2004 tour (the only other tour VH came to vancouver since i've been a fan) with hagar, the paper said a "Show for the ages", sammy hagar besides ruining van halen is actually a really good solo artist.

As for that, i remember gettings so excited for that in 98, watching the videos the new album, it was the first since they became my fav band, and the last. Ughhh, so frustrating. Anyways, sometimes i can take VH iii other times i can't, like why is he singing like that. Why does he grab eddies inner thigh on stage? I'll never forget that from that video, that was like, oh man what the hell was that. Like man. I"m glad they didn't come to vancouver in a way.

Still like VH 3 tho, Eddie's got amazing guitar work on there.

Rag on that tour all you want, Ed was 10,000x better on that tour than he is now.

    Great minds think alike, right?...

I always use this song as sort of a benchmark for "Ed At His Best". I think he was really on top in 1995, 1996 and 1998... but his playing on this tour, if you listen around Gary, IS his best, IMO.
Sings like a bird. Rocks like a pig.
