Yeah, I thought that sounded a little screwed up that night.

Oh well, not like I haven't heard them play that one before anyways.

You know, I thought it sounded a little off when I first heard it. I thought maybe it was the recording.

thats what you call absolute chaos mentally.

Thats a horrible feeling when you can do n-o-t-h-i-n-g about it....and you have to trudge through it.

yeah and there's a little know band, called, hmmm, oh yeah led zeppelin, i think they're doing a gig next month lol and being a huge fan of theirs and being a collector of their live shows i could riff off numerous occasions the mighty zepp fell completely apart onstage, keyboards out of tune, all 4 playing completely different versions of a song.... its a live rock act, shit happens....

and given the volume on that stage it must really have caught them off guard, esp. ed, who seems to be suffering at the hands of complete fools technically during this tour....

i saw this vid the night it came out, brought back horrid memories of club gigs where similar happens and youre usually half way throgh the song before you even realize exactly what is happening....

i can only imagine your first or second gig in front of 20,000 and having to deal with that....

Basically, the speed of the prerecorded backing track played too fast, sort of like if you played an old vinyl lp (designed to play at 33 1/3 RPM) at 45 RPM (the speed for a single). You've heard this before, in an "Alvin and the Chipmunks" tune.

As a result, the guitars were now out of tune, relative to the keyboards on the backing track. (If you notice, when the keyboard part is low in the mix, as in the solo section, everything sounds relatively OK.) The discordant sound is the tones of the guitar and keyboard not agreeing. Your ear hears the difference, and as a result, it hurts.

Ever notice that the sound of a dentist's drill effects some people, or nails on a chalk board? Pretty much the same thing.

My friends commented on this sounding out of tune at the time. I had a headache and just kinda suffered through the last song, I don't know how I didn't pick up on this... but I honestly didn't notice at the time.

Thanks for the lesson. Who's fault is this? Ed seems to have some serious tech issues so far. Does this contradict a keyboardist playing?

thats him playing a guitar that is tuned to Eb like most all of the Roth Era was...the problem is..is that Jump was tuned standard...so he is a half step off the whole time...i cannot believe he didn't stop playing.

Whoever is in charge of programming and running the back ups is at fault, as there is no "keyboardist" in the normal sense, just a high tech version of a fellow behind the curtain making the "prop" sound effects in a play (like lightning and thunder, horse hoofs galloping, ect.). He simply made an error in the way the computer software "played".

So to put it loosely, rather than hearing horses charging off in a "clippity-clop" sound, you heard what sounded like a box of ping pong balls hitting a formica table, as a result of the mistake. If the "horses" on stage galloped at a normal "charging" pace, the result would be the same, only with the element of a visual, as well as audio, effect.

I don't understand what the big deal is about hiring a keyboard player to sit behind the stage. It would definetly be less problems.

Ed should have stopped playing. It's not a big guitar song anyway.

Close....but it's actually Eddie's guitar that's tuned a bit low. He's tuned between D and Eb with the keyboard track playing the same as usual. I checked his tuning against my own guitar and he's just out by a bit, but enough to be really noticeable. I bet he caught it too and decided to just play along and put on a good performance, since the live audience probably wouldn't have noticed it that much.
