    Default Conditions of Dave's Return

I haven't seen a post about this, so I figured I would speculate since it seems clear there are conditions Dave has agreed to to join this tour.

    1) No interviews allowed.

    2) No extended talking on stage beyond the one story.

    3) Sing the lyrics

    4) No whiskey jack-off routine

    5) Limited spot-light time, with restrictions on movement.

#1 can be easily proven - has anyone read a Dave interview since the tour began? I haven't -- sure seems odd. #2, #3 and #4 seem documented by people at the shows and youtube clips.

#5 is the tough one. It sure seems to me watching the youtube clips that Dave doesn't have the spotlight shining on him that much, but Eddie is always well lit at all times. It could also be that Dave's outfit isn't reflecting the lighting as much as Ed's white pants and skin. Can anyone opine on #5 because I haven't been to a show yet.

Dave doesn't seem to be running around as much as he used to, though the guy is clearly totally fit. Even during solos when he doesn't have to concentrate on his singing, he isn't doing that much. It has me wondering. Then again, his recent solo outings seem more restrained physically, so I guess it could be self-imposed.

    Anyone?

I don't think these were stipulations to DLR's return so much as they were just important aspects of the show VH as a band and/or management wanted to implement so as to keep things moving swiftly while offering up a quality show. The '04 shows were tighter than any Sammy-VH tour I'd ever seen before, with talking and space between songs kept to a minimum.

Good point. I don't look at anything DLR is doing as a result of a leash. As for DLR on-stage routine, I'd like to think it is an evolvement relative to time. A 50+ year old in 2007 would look foolish doing the the same thing he was known for doing 20+ years ago.

I wouldn't doubt the lyric clause actually, as it seemed to be a pet peeve of the brothers .... the whiskey seems to be common sense due to ed's condition as well as a raising the level of class for this outting ... but the interview thing (not to mention their limited web site expansion) is a bit of a mystery.

I'm guessing both might change once the tour's in full swing, if nothing more than to provide further controversy in order to add the proverbial log on the publicity fire.

imho (and sorry for the mixed metaphores).

Yes a 50yr old DLR would look foolish. But I cannot help but think that Ed had to stop him from "looking foolish". Believe it or not, EVH is WAYYY more in touch with reality than DLR.

Which is pretty much like saying that Richard Simmons is way more macho than Liberace.

    1) he did interviews after being back in the band - none of them have done an interview since the tour began. They're probably too busy counting the money they're making

    2) there was more than one story at the Toronto show.

    3) he is the singer and all

    4) don't think that would have amused the fanbase considering Ed's condition.

    5) that's beyond laughable

Dave is back in the band - they didn't ask him to rip his balls off to come back to the band. I think the only condition he has was the same Sammy had - no pimping Cabo during the show. So far so good.

i noticed a big difference in dave from the sunday toronto show to the firday one....

its like he's entering the terrible two's and is testing his parents ever so subtly.... he was much more classic 'cool' dave on the friday show....

not that that is a bad thing!

his classic screams and yelps were more evident at the Friday show for sure. I'd tend to think that the situation is less about advanced restrictions placed on him and more about the fact that he's wanted this SO BAD for SO LONG that he's smart enough to know he can't screw it up by being a jackass...

We have no idea what's going on in Dave's backstage area, but it seems to be a more sober Dave during this tour as well. Let's face it when all of us drink, we get more vocal and do things we normally wouldn't do, so if Dave is laying low on the drugs and alcohol for this outing, he's not going to be as flamboyant. The Dave I see on stage now is the Dave that I listened to on the radio show last year, an intellgient and matured performer.

As for the stories, Dave doesn't have a lot of time if they are going to fit in all those songs in a 2 hour show.

Dave has his 'Dave' moments in the show but it isn't all-Dave the whole time. I enjoy hearing the one-liners but the music is doing the talking on this tour.
