Anyone can do time travel now. All they need is a DeLoreon with a Flux Capacitor!

I'd need the capability of time travel simply to go back to my teens and work from there to figure this shit out ...

I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

Nevermind that crazy diagram, who the hell can make sense out of this:

Bars first found hints of an extra time dimension in M-theory in 1995 and, when he looked into it, discovered the grandfather paradox and other fears could be overcome by using a new kind of symmetry - a mathematical property to work out the relationship between the quantities of position and momentum. It is this symmetry that might help reconcile the two mighty pillars of 20th-century physics, quantum mechanics and relativity.

Isn't relativity the conceit that for every action there is a positive and negative reaction? I think he's trying to correlate energy and it's disbursement verses the whacked out contradictions of quantum mechanics.

Like...here's a flashlight beam (energy). How do I bend that or alter it's path so that it circles around behind it's starting point.

More than likely I'm not explaining this correctly.

That's probably where it started, in a bar or at a BBQ.

I don't get how they define the 4th dimension of space!

    Seriously, there -

You get second dimension from extending a line from a dot. You then extend a line upwards making a square which is still 2D, extending which forwards you get a 3rd dimension. So basically, you need at least two, or four more steps to go from that cube to get a model of the 4th dimension of space.

And I was about to go to sleep actually!
Cool stuff anyway, it makes my imagination working.

Brother, you need to think "outside the box".

You are forgetting that until now, time has been a fairly straightforward, linear concept. You know, the sun rises, it sets, rises again=a day, or 24 hours. Over the years, theories have expounded on the concept of space being a massive flowing river, ever expanding. This calls into question the notion that as a result, time itself may do the same.

The best argument I can offer was offered by a character on a tv show, a wise fellow by the name of Venus. He asked a doubting young fellow if the young man had ever been to Africa. The boy replied "No." Venus then asked if the boy knew it existed, to which the boy answered "Yes."

That's the thing. Only the arrogance and shortsightedness of man allows him to state "Seeing is believing". (That one comes from a particularly inspired episode of the "X-Files", spoken by one of the "men in black". )

Christ, somebody stop me before I sub-reference again.

I have always been using the similar example on non-believers like, if you SAW a UFO then you actually KNOW it exists. Believing is something different.

In no way I'm saying 4th dimension isn't there! I'm just curious as in how you visualise it, coz in mathematics you have to deal with whichever number of dimensions you want, matrixes and whatnot, and we'd have long convos with our professors in my old uni about possibilities of them being geometrically drawn. What I find more fascinating is some 4th-5th-etc demensional life form, who'd be in every moment of the past/present/future but nowhere at the same time. Kinda mind boggling but it could form some good fiction!

Yet in a decently schematical sense, visualise the following: Our Earth. A globe sitting in space. As an abstract, a very huge dude comes along, and sits there watching us, perhaps using our moon as an ashtray or arm-rest. Does "his" perspective" upon what he sees, create another dimension? Yes, it does.

Does an ant, before being gulped by the lizard, before the lizard is chased by a bird...not strike a particular refrain? What I'm getting at in a "round about" way is that perception is only privy to the purveyor. Yes, I'm putting this in tertiary and the most basically relative terms, yet for cryin' out loud, what else do we have to work with?

Radio waves exist. I do not know why, nor do I understand why such crappy music comes over them (well, actually I do ) yet they exist nonetheless. This is sort of like the world-wide expansion of knowledge via the internet has led to the expansion of kiddie porn and wholesale garage sales for the truly untalented.

I guess ya got to have faith. Sadly, it is in such short supply.
