How many US States can I name correctly?

    Hello from Canada!

So I'm bored at work yesterday, and Jim Rome is referencing that Miss Teen whoever who rambled on about a percentage of "US Americans" not being able to find the United States on a map (or on the Iraq or South African map for that matter). And I got thinking about how many of the individual states I could find on the US map, given that I'm not a geography expert and haven't looked at a US map in probably 20 years. And I'm Canadian.

I figured I should be able to get 20 right easy, then all bets would be off.

As it turns out, I got 37 right. I can locate the following states on the United States map. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

    Here's my errors.

I had Arkansas where Oklahoma is.
I had Colorado where Wyoming is.
I had Connecticut where Maryland is.
I had Delaware where Vermont is.
I had Iowa where Colorado is.
I had Kansas where Missouri is.
I had Kentucky where Arkansas is.
I had Maryland where Delaware is.
I had Missouri where Kentucky is.
I had New Hampshire where Connecticut is.
I had Oklahoma where Kansas is.
I had Vermont where New Hampshire is.
I had Wyoming where Iowa is.

Is that a good or bad percentage??

That's a pretty good percentage my friend. We had a drinking game in college where someone would name a state and the person to his or her left would have to name the state capital. If the person got the capital right, then the person asking the question would have to chug a beer and vice versa.

Let me tell you, after having gotten plastered the first time, I did my research and learned my state capitals.

We should at least try to learn what's in our own country.

So no offense meant, but it's bad man. (Esp. if you went to college. They should've taught that.)

That's not bad, especially if you're a Canadian. I'll bet most Americans, including me, couldn't locate most of the Canadian provinces.

My U.S. geography has improved because of my travel but I still get all the New England states mixed up.

I had to call a guy in Nebraska and he asked me if Winnipeg was in New Brunswick. I damn near cried.
I know lots of people don't know Canada well down there, but he works in a business where he has to tell other companies where corresponding service shops are.

You just had to post that! I got 45/50, 90%, average error 15 miles, 245 seconds. It's kinda dumb that you had to drag the first states to wide open areas, of course it's gonna be almost impossible to get them right in the exact spot.

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."

Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

88% Average error miles = 30 but I dropped Hawaii by accident. I understand the history of the originial Colonies and such but did the folks of Rhode Island really need their own plot of land?

Technically I got 47 of 50, but fuck that - my "average" error was 8 miles. Please. Trying to get Nevada right with none of the neighboring states is just about impossible if it's going to give you an error when you're 25 miles off. I got all 50 in basically the correct places.

What would be more accurate in assessing knowledge would be drag the state names to the states with boundaries already on the map. No borders to match up like a puzzle...

One of the very first things you should learn in school is to read and follow directions. That'll put you ahead of a lot of people. I don't know how well you can follow directions, but you must have run into trouble reading Glenn's first sentence: Hello from CANADA!

Can you find all of the Canadian Provinces and territories on a map?

94%, 8 miles, 328 secs - while talking on the phone

I can draw a map of the United States freehand, but I still have to go in order, so when "Missouri" comes up and I don't have the surrounding states, it's just not going to be possible for me to place it correctly. Maybe if the Mississippi river was on the blank map, but not without some sort of guide!
