Default Is this a "dry" tour?

Interesting that there's no sign of Jack Daniels on the tour so far, which has been a staple on every VH and DLR tour. Dave has always done a JD toast.

Could this be a concession that Dave made to Ed to support his sobriety?

Any reports on the backstage vibe? If, in fact, Dave is not drinking (at least not in front of Ed) to be respectful of Ed, that would be a really classy move on his part that I'm sure Ed and Alex would appreciate.

Everyone looked sober to me. I don't know if that means it's totally 'dry' or not, but I don't think anyone is overindulging.

I'm sure that managers, family members, band mates, etc. are doing anything they can to make sure Ed stays healthy. They need him more than he needs them. That is probably the reason there is no JD, no "Bottoms Up!", and no smoking loon beside the stage.

Besides, it's not like these guys have backstage parties anymore. They're outta there before most people in the audience. The days of strippers and midgets are long gone. Nowadays, they get their kicks away from the venue.

Of course, Eddie just could be really paranoid about DLR starting a Whiskey empire, you just never know

I had 5th row the other night in Toronto. Dave drank Red Bull onstage, Wolfie had water, Eddie had Gatorade. I saw no sign of alcohol anywhere on the stage. Everyone appeared to be completely sober. Who knows what happens after the show or in the dressing room, but from the looks of it, this is a clean and dry tour. I hope it stays that way too, because they sound phenomenal. Bette than ever.

Could be Val's doing too. Dave may have had to deal with her too. Sign here for dry or no Wolfie (which would also mean no ED)

My son's coming with me, so it's dry for me as well!

Dave would have to be an asshole to be up there preaching the word of Jack Daniels with two alcoholics and an underage kid in the band. A lot of people seem to forget that Alex is a recovering alcoholic also. He quit drinking after the 5150 tour. According to Sammy's book that was never released, but chapters leaked out to the internet, Alex fell off the wagon at the end of the Balance tour. Take it for whatever it's worth.

Considering how Ed was plastered during a lot of the shows on the '04 tour, it's a nice change of pace to see the band playing while what appears to be sober. It would be somewhat odd to see 3 50+ guys drinking on stage with a 16-year old.

I'm sure there will be plenty of Jack shots and tequilla drinking at the other half tour dates.

It seems obvious to me that Dave had some kind of agreement with the Van Halens that he would not do any Jack Daniels toasts, midgets, strippers, etc. on this tour. All the solo tours, especially the Sam and Dave tour had all of the above. I'm sure backstage *after* the show is a different story, especially since they have separate dressing rooms. It's probably "Club Dave" at it's finest...and good for him, I'd love to be able to recreate the 1982 backstage at 53 with a bunch of hot chicks if I could too!

I've noticed in the youtube clips that Ed and Wolf exit one side of the stage and Dave and Alex exit another.

All I have to say is that the first night Valerie isn't at a show, Wolf will be exiting on Dave and Alex's side of the stage. . .

He's a teenager! Imagine if you were on tour with Van Halen when you were 16. Of course his dad is there, but you don't know Eddie's parenting strategies. He could be one of those 'cool dads.' You know, the kind you didn't have, but your friend had and he always bought you guys beer and hookers. Man, I miss high school.

Is this a "dry tour?" No, I had a good buzz during the show at Mohegan.

I like how people make Dave out to be a drunk up on stage. I'd bet the JD thing was pretty much 95% show, yes in the early days the guy (and the band too) did some heavy partying before, during and after the shows. They are older now with a minor in the band as well. The shows now start at around 8:30 by most accounts and is over around 10:30. Those partying days seem to be a thing in the past.
I don't count Ed in 2004 as being a partier, he seemed to drink alone and maybe it was his way of coping with the tour I really don't know and neither does anyone else except for maybe Alex.

That was back in the party days, this is a "grown up" Band.
