yeah i found cathedral to be quiet in toronto too....

my take is whatever MINOR mistakes that have been made with regards to his playing have more than been made up for by his sheer enthusiasm on stage.... watching all the vids before the show, i thought it was there, but when you see him live, and running around, and the facial expressions and smiles its a whole other level.... it makes the show....

go you tube a vid of andy summers with the police reunion and you dont see it, and if you want the ultimate in miserable watch the guy from genesis, the guy looked like he had a gun to his head to be out there....

i think as the tour goes on its only going to get better and we will see more interplay between him and roth and him and wolf / alex....

hahaha...I was actually thinking the same thing last night in Toronto. Quiet is good, but this was nearly inaudible. But overall, he played great. He's like a mix of '84 Ed, '98 Ed and '04 Ed (when he was on...which was rarely, but there were some nights). He played certain parts very precisely, while he noodled occasionally to mixed results, but a lot more of his noodling sounded good unlike in '04. Also, it sounds as though the butterfly picking has improved a lot as well as his tapping technique. The highlight of his playing for me was "Little Guitars." He NAILED those rhythm parts as well as all the picking.

i think ed's majorly improved over '04....i have 2 small criticisms

    a) please put a shirt one...he's in great shape but enough already

    b) when did ed start using a wah for 40% of the solos?

When he plans on releasing a black and yellow striped wah pedal in the near future ....

Yeah, he uses the 'wah-wah' a lot in this show. Not only the solo but any little guitar fills in songs he uses it. But, you know what, it sounds awesome and I don't mind it.
I prefer him using that than that sustainer crap (whatever it was) he used a lot of back in '04.

That Mean Street intro still kinda weird after listening to the first few boots. Wonder if thats what he intends to play?

Oh and there's a ton of flanger (sp?) as well. Again, not that I mind. Sounds cool.

Default EVH stuck in a rut

Let’s face it, from the 5150 tour forward, he’s been playing more or less THE SAME DAMN SOLO for 2 full decades!!! A little eruption, a little cathedral, a little intro to Mean Streets (although they are playing this in its entirety now) and done. Where is the spontaneity? Howzabout some right-off-the-top-of-my-head jamming like Stevie Ray.

You always read the stories/interviews where Eddie reportedly sits in his studio til 6 AM every night just playing. I believe this to be true but you have to wonder…where’s the output???

P.S. I would suggest inserting a little "Donut City" into his solo but I played it the other day and realized it is identical to a LOVERBOY song

the worst part of the tour is exactly that: "Me Wise Magic" is not being played.
