reckless 17yo driver kills sister, her friend and self

**This 16yo destroys his Prelude while drunk 7 months ago, and his parents replace it (reward him) with a WRX?!?!
    -------------------------
WOLCOTT, CT - A car carrying three teens crashed into a truck while speeding down Route 322 this morning, killing the 17-year-old driver, his sister and her friend, police said.

The victims have been identified as Wolcott High School senior Anthony Apruzzese, freshman Jessica Apruzzese, 15, and freshman Thamara Correa, 15.

The accident happened about 8:30 a.m. Wolcott High School was closed because of a water main break and the students were heading to Anthony Apruzzese's home, said Capt. Domenic Angiolillo.

The teens were in a Subaru WRX heading north on East Street and tried to go around a boat being towed by another vehicle, which was turning into a parking lot at the Farmingbury Country Club. The Subaru clipped the back of the boat, skidded sideways and struck an oncoming box truck, Angiolillo said.

Teens gathered at the town green to grieve and to remember the victims.

Joe Critelli, who works at the pro shop at the country club golf course, said he heard a loud bang around 8:15 a.m.

"Oh my God, I thought it was a bomb," he said.

Critelli then walked outside and saw a car and truck - both mangled - about 100 yards from the shop, he said.

Angiolillo said about 150 teenagers stopped by the crash scene, lining up at the police tape. Grief counseling was being offered at Wolcott's town hall.

"A lot of kids are obviously very upset," he said.

Police were not yet sure whether any of the teens' friends were in vehicles nearby and witnessed the crash. The utility truck's driver had minor injuries.

Apruzzese was also involved in a high-speed accident in late March that sent him to the hospital along with another teenage passenger, according to reports from the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper.

Apruzzese was driving a 1997 Honda Prelude on March 31 when the vehicle careened off Beecher Road in Wolcott and slammed into a tree, nearly cutting the car in two, the newspaper reported.

Apruzzese and his passenger, 16-year-old Darryl Ramones, were taken to a nearby hospital with various injuries, but both eventually recovered.

Apruzzese was charged with DUI, yet since the test was a blood test, his license was only suspended for 90 days. Not the 120 days for a breath test failure.

Wolcott, which has slightly more than 15,000 people, borders Waterbury and is about 30 miles southwest of Hartford. State Sen. Sam Caligiuri, whose district includes the town, described it as a close-knit community.

"My heart is broken for these kids and for their families," he said. "It's one of those places where everyone knows each other and families in many cases go back many generations. I know this is going to hit the town of Wolcott very, very hard."

The teens were in a Subaru WRX, the same type of car involved in a fatal crash in August in Bristol where four teens were killed. The high-performance car was totaled on Route 6 in Bristol when it slid sideways into the oncoming lane and was hit broadside by a Ford Taurus.

Police are still investigating but say that 18-year-old Sean Landry of Plymouth, the Subaru's driver, was apparently speeding and lost control of his car. Landry was driving friends home from a pool party in Watertown; killed were Myles Gosselin, 17, of Burlington, and Alyssa Roy and Jordan Gagnon, both 16, of Farmington.

    Different states, different laws.
In California his licence would have been suspended until he was 21 for a DUI.

There's so much I want to say but it would be out of line. Had this been my son, when he came home from jail he would have found a giant squre of crushed metal that used to be his car with his new, cheap-assed bike chained to it.

i don't think you'd be out of line at all. And if more parents were like you we wouldn't see stupid shit like this. I strongly believe that 90% of today's problems with kids are due to horrible parenting. This is just another example.

Yeah, I believe NY is the same. What I don't understand is how the blood test gets 90 days but the breath test gets 120. I am 99% positive the blood test is more accurate than the breathalyzer.

If my kid drank a drop of alcohol at age 16 and got behind the wheel, she wouldn't have a need for a bike, because she wouldn't be going anywhere. Home-schooling, and daily ass kicking would be her life until 18.

I just confirmed: yes, a blood test is much more accurate than a breathalyzer.

So, this moronic state gives a lower punishment for the more provable crime, and lets teenagers with DUI's back behind the wheel after as little as 90 days. That's our government at work!

I imagine the reason for this is that a blood test is not often done at the scene. So while it might be more accurate if both tests are done at the same time, they often aren't. As the breath test would be done right away it would probably be a more accurate test.

I think your daily ass kicking would have been the better option anyways. If I pulled a stunt like that when I was a kid ... actually the thought wouldn't have ever entered my mind. My father never hit me a kid but I always knew that if that day ever came that I wouldn't really enjoy it much. And I sure as fuck wouldn't have had another car to drive (damn I wouldn't have the first one).

States make those laws, not the federal government. In California, like Axxman said, his license would have been suspended until he was 21. You're such a bad driver at 16. I've had one at-fault accident in my life, and it was when I was...you guessed it...16. No fucking judgement and you do stupid shit.

maybe the federal govt should step in and tighten the laws and make them uniform... DUI under 21 and you don't get your license till 21... offense #2 (and you survive), don't get it back till 25... and do time... you can make the mistake once, but know that there will be severe consequences if you survive a second mistake...

hogan's kid has done the same moronic thing twice and they bought him a suped up car after the first accident, too... the second accident saw his passenger friend get very hurt... don't know how it turned out as the story got buried...

extremely bad parenting in both cases...
Runaround... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around... around...

The more I hear about these cases, the less I am against driving restrictions for teen drivers. I have a nephew who will turn 16 in a week and I worry about how safe he will be, knowing how his father and I were at his age. It took me being caught with a BAC of .22 to get my shit together, and it was of no fault of my parents who told me the risks of drinking.

To me it's obvious, he was their baby-boy. Those meanie-weenie poweecemen were picking on their "Angel". He'd probably gotten everything that he ever wanted since birth so why let a little thing like a crash due to DUI change that....he was just a good boy who was misunderstood.

That or they wanted to kill him.

We lost a kid like this for the exact same reason, his father gave his son anything and everything that he wanted without earning it. Neil Pert's Tama drum set at 12? No problem. Ski trips to Tahoe with all of his friends? Sure, why not? BMW with Alpine stereo system? Anything for my boy.

He drove it off a cliff trying to pass a line of cars in an area that everyone knows that you just don't do that.

Another family (rich) that had their baby boy killed in a DUI accident actually had the nerve to try to sue the county because the tree that he slammed into while driving drunk on a suspended licence was "Too close to the road" (about 50 feet). The judge threw out the case because the county produced photos of the speedometer which showed it frozen from the force of impact at 120mph. This was in a 45mph zone.

What I'll never understand is why the parents are always so "Shocked" that their kids were morons.
