Tonight proved to be the biggest mistake I made this year... What was the mistake? I blew my load of money on seeing The Police in Boston from about 500 yards away, rather than doing things right and holding out for something better... Tonight WAS the better...

    WOW...

Two hours of almost non-stop rock show... Nostalgia? Yes... But what do you expect?!

"Three fourths original, one fourth inevitable", David Lee Roth

On at 9:04, off at 11:04...

Did I miss Mike?! Fuck yeah... Was it cool to see Dave, fuck yeah... Last time I saw Dave was opening for Bad Company in 1999... That "1999" Dave no longer exists... 2007 Dave, brought it... 2004 Eddie, doesn't exist... 2007 Eddie BROUGHT IT...

Sorry - no set list from me... I'm not that anal... BUT!! I hope there's a good recording of tonight, because it was a special night... Ed's guitar shit the bed during a song I can't remember right now... For almost three minutes Alex and Wolfie held a jamming groove... The looks on their faces were priceless... Did Eddie freak-out and smash thet guitar?! No, he held his cool, the tech jumped up... Neither could figure out what was wrong, and soon a replacement was in his hands and off they went to a huge roar... As if nothing happened...

Now, onto the "background vocals"... Incredibly processed... To the point, where I do feel for much of the night, they were not live... Wolfies "Come on Dave give me a break" voice is way to young to be doing those harmonies... But, overall it didn't matter... They aren't trying to deceive to rip us off, just trying to deliver an acceptable product for the money, and for this fairweather fan, they did - AND THEN SOME... Did they go through the motions repeating almost everything already done at other shows? Yes... But, I learned a long time ago, these gigs are cookie-cutter in nature...

If anyone is still on the fence, get off, get a ticket and go... (yes you Brett)

Looking forward to Worcester, where I did get much better seats...

"Glad to be back, with this fucking new band", Eddie Van Halen

It'll be interesting to hear how that was covered by the rest of the band.

Have been an enormous fan since 1982 and still can hear myself telling my mom after not getting tickets for the 1984 show in Hartford "It's OK, I am sure they will be back this way soon." BZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTT!!

Anyway, 23 years later I am thankful to have finally seen most of the original band. Being a bass player, I am kinda bummed this version doesn't include Mike A. but I'll take what I can get at this point. Woflie seems good enough, not a bundle of personality but a decent player and doing a bang up job. As for the backing vocals, I don't think they were "piped in". Processed, sure, but still live I think. As a young kid, I think Wolfie might have the higher tone needed to pull off some of what Mike did on record so many years ago. In any case, the harmony vocals sounded pretty damn good to me.

I don't have any complains about the show, had a great time, Roth sounded good (I would give him a "B" vs. a D+/C- when I saw him perform some VH tunes solo as part of the Sammy/Dave deal) and I think the energy these guys had was tremendous. Eddie especially, lots of energy and insanely shreddy.

    Looking forward to Worcester!

Great Show! .. Felt sorry for Ed when he lost power. The only problem I had had was, Eddie did not walk around the "Circle". Dave did a few times, as did Wolfie .. but I guess Ed made up for it with 100% energy all night!

Have to give Credit to Marley too .. he sounded great. Worth the time to check him out!

This happened during Doctor. At first the tech ran to the pedal board and began messing with the pedals and jumper cables. Eventually, they replaced Eds cord and guitar before the sound returned. This took about 2-3 minutes.

Alex played the beat and Wolfie kept the bass line running. They were all smiling while it happened and Ed even ran to the side of the stage and good heartedly threw his hands in the air and seemed to say I give up. Dave danced and laughed than said "we're experiencing technical difficulties". Then Ed jumped back in like nothing happened. They never missed a beat.

I too had the hanging monitor blocking parts of the stage, not too badly but it sucked. I was in 105 row L. It seemed to me that the stage was a little crowded in this building. In Charlotte, the roof being higher up, the lighting rig and amps were hanging higher above the stage. The giant hourglass light fixtures above the stage were arranged in 2 rows of 2 on top of each other but at Bobcat they were 4 in a row and way higher up. I also thought the sound in Charlotte was much better, but its pretty well known that Mohegan doesn't have the best acoustics.

Tonight it sounded a little muddy at times. A lot of the screen seemed to be obstructed by the speakers and lights at least from my angle. It was quite interesting to see the show for the second time and from a different angle. I was on the floor in Charlotte. Mohegan was a great show, I just hate the casino as a concert venue. Everything about tonight would have been more fun at the Hartford Civic Center or the Meadows. 2 down, 1 more to go for me. See you in Worcester.

Sound was very distorted .. Attendent said 7000 people were there .. I think the acoustics suck at the Casino .. even when I saw Sammy last year.

Was it me .. or did it feel like the average age there was 50. I am 39 and felt the youngest...LOL

Section 17 looked like the "Senior Center" .. my girlfiend said it was hard not too find a man who looked over 40 without a "beer gut" ... "bald" and "attractive". Sorry guys.. just a womans perspective .. Not Mine!

After all the years of waiting, I finally got to see the magic of David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen on stage!!! I had read some of the reviews from other shows and I will say the same thing others have said before. GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!

Eddie - The King of 10 Fingers and 6 Strings is back! This guy was on his game all night long. Some of the solos in some songs he didn't play note for note but that was fine by me. What he added or changed slightly was fantastic and with a lot of feel. He went shirtless wearing those camafloged pants with sneakers that looked like his Frankie guitar. During the show he brought out 1/2 dozen different guitars to play. With a clearer mind now, Eddie is just shredding!

Dave - My all-time favorite frontman showed why he is the best...hands down. Yes, he said a lot of the same things he said in earlier shows but that is what he is. A showman. As for singing, this is the best he has sounded in I don't know how long. He made it a point to try to sing most of the vocals. His use of props was pretty cool too.

Alex - The man is an age-less wonder. He still plays his ass off. Always in time and flawless. I did notice a lot of people heading out during his solo but I stayed and watched in amazement. I am a drummer and I never get tired of watch Big Al do his thing.

Wolfgang - This kid can play! He may be 16 but he held his own nicely on the songs that were a decade older than himself. His vocals were really good. It did sound kind of funny when he told Dave to 'give him a break' in his youthful voice. He still looked a little stiff in some songs but him and Ed goofed around alot together. Ed seemed to get him to loosen up. I tell you though, the kid has a lot of guts to be out there in front of thousands of people and play with the greatest band in the world.

The setlist looked to be the same as in the first 4 shows. Lots of killer tunes. We even got a little 'treat' to hear Wolfie and Alex jam for a little bit while Ed and his tech was trying to get things straightened out during 'Somebody Get Me a Doctor'. And yes, the looks on their faces were priceless. But they all were pros about it and did what they could to make the best of the situation.

It is still surreal to me that I saw Dave back with VH. I hope these guys continue this version of the band. If not, then they have gone out on top! No doubt in mind my mind.

Unfortunately Eddie can't go far until he gets untethered. He's still dead set against going wireless.

Damn, I wrote a review in the "official CT show" thread. Sorry 'bout that, it's Van Halen's fault.

    Anyway, in short:

Show was incredibly awesome!! The energy, the songs, the show--Fantastic!!

Alex--best drum solo I've seen him do. The guy is a monster on the skins.
Eddie--has to get rid of the friggin' cord. He had technical problems at the '04 show and now again last night. Enough with the cord already. Wolfie doesn't need one!
Dave--vocals sounded better than I thought they would. Ya gotta get rid of that stupid inflatable microphone. He hops on it for about 5 seconds then has to lug it up to the stage. Very stupid.
Wolfie--I like him. Does a fine job. Needs to display a little more (some) enthusiasm during the show, but a good job nonetheless. His vocals are definitely 'enhanced' in some way.
Show--Awesome, as everyone has mentioned. However way, way too loud. Some parts of the show are not audibly clear. There's too much distorted sound sometimes to actually hear what is going on in the song. I remember there were parts of "Hot for Teacher" where I thought they messed up but then all of a sudden they'd all stop at the same time as they were all in sync with one another and turns out there was no error, it was just lost in the distortion.
    Oh well, Great, Great Show!!!

Hope to see you all in Worcester!!!!
