Default Report: Hulk Hogan To Host "American Gladiators" On NBC

Report: Hulk Hogan To Host "American Gladiators" On NBC
    Source: TVWeek.com

Television industry news site TVWeek.com is reporting that professional wrestler and VH1 reality show star Hulk Hogan has signed on to host NBC’s upcoming remake of “American Gladiators".

Hogan made the rounds at NBC’s Burbank offices last week and has accepted the job. The deal is still being finalized, but sources say both parties are committed.

NBC sees Hogan as "the perfect fit" for the "Gladiators" revival. In addition to his experience as a physical performer during his years with the World Wrestling Federation, Hogan has proved he can draw viewers with sheer force of personality in his successful VH1 reality series “Hogan Knows Best.”

The network plans to showcase “Gladiators” sometime in midseason.

Like the early-1990s original, the new “Gladiators” will have everyday weekend warriors competing against the show’s cast of athletes. The remake will add special effects, water skills and high-tech stunts.

ESPN classic has been playing re-runs of old American Gladiator episodes. Some of those guys on their had some sick mullets.

I wonder if they'll bring back some of the old gladiators as guests?

The original show ruled. If I see it on ESPN Classic, I'll definitely watch it.

I loved the game where the gladiator shot tennis balls at the contestants while the contestant ran between stations and shot objects at a target behind the gladiator. I think it was called "Assault."

Nah, that was "Battle Dome", sort of an "American Gladiators" rip-off.

    American Gladiators Premier Date Announced

During Monday night's episode of "Heroes", NBC announced that the new season of "American Gladiators" will premier on Sunday night January 6th, 2008.

The remake of the popular early 90's game show will feature wrestling star Hulk Hogan as a co-host.

The announcement of American Gladiators airing on Sunday nights means that one of NBC's other shows initially announced for Sunday nights in January will be bumped. At this point, it is unknown which show American Gladiators will be replacing - "Law & Order", "Medium" or the new show "Lipstick Jungle".

I absolutely loved the original "American Gladiators." I would root for the contestants but imagine the Gladiators would use brute force to get me out of fights (the original series must have aired a long time ago).

Too bad they'll probably pervert the oriiginal and make it a combination fear factor and that other show that used to have a giant pool as a center motif...

Better wait to sign those new contracts until the divorce papers are finalized.

I always dug American Gladiators as well.

I remember watching the original show back in the day. Hopefully, they don't try to make it into some WWE-style show.

I'm kind of surprised it's a 2 hour show. I don't know how they'll fill it without it having a little WWE-type schlockiness. We'll see. I'll give it a watch tonight.
