I guess even little kids are into VH now...

So I was at band practice tonight. And while our singer was setting up his guitar and equipment, the bass player, drummer, and I were talking about the VH tour thing, and we started to jam VH tunes while we were waiting. We did "Unchained" and these two boys came into the room, couldn't have been more than 13, and said, "We love Van Halen, play more, play more." So they're like sitting there, and they're throwing out tunes, and I'm like to myself "Shit, how does that go again? Oh yeah yeah." So we did about 5 or 6 tunes before we were ready to go, so they start to leave. And they're all, "So you're going to the shows in November here right?" I said, "Uh, well probably not." And they're all "DUUUUUDE, how can you not go, you're obviously a VH nut." "I'm like "Yeah yeah" (fuck off now fuckers to myself) . I get enough of that shit here, I gotta hear it from two 13-year olds at band practice.

I don't know it was funny at the time. I guess one their dads is a huge fan and is taking about 10 of these 13-year olds to the show at Staples. Hey whatever gets these kids into good music works for me.

Yeah, obviously their dad is heavily into Van Halen - same like my 11-y/o brother is a mega-fan. Gosh it's actually reminds me how I walked into this music store when I was around 14-15 and the guitar tech played abit of Eruption so I was like "DUDE play more of VH!" .

    Cool story, Brett.

Everyone, don't listen to Brett, he is being very modest.

I've played in some bands before and Brett's is as good or better than most on the radio today. He has a myspace page and I have it favorited on my home laptop, I think his band is called Lowtide and his site is Lowtiderocks. Going off memory here, but if you like guitar driven melodic rock, Brett's stuff is as good as anyone's.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I have three kids myself, aged 14, 15 and 18. The 15 year old is the one into music. I've taken him to see Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance and shit like that. They were halfway decent shows, but these new bands are just kinda weak in comparison and only play about 1 hour and a half. My son and his pals were going nuts after the My Chem show, slapping fives and saying how it was "the greatest thing we ever saw" and shit like that....I wasn't going to say anything to them because it's their stuff, y'know, not mine, so on the way home, they asked me if I thought it was great. I say "Yeah, but....you guys really need to see a real show. Nothing agains your guys, but most concerts I've seen, the bands play for 2 hours or more. Your guys only played for an hour and 15 minutes." I could tell they didn't want to hear that so I shut up and let them bask in their teenybop glory, but when VH tickets went onsale, I got one for my son. he brushed up on the old VH and was really excited about going, so that was cool. No cooler, however than the look on his face about halfway thru the show in Charlotte on Thursday. I tapped him on the back and asked him:

"So what do you think about this so far?"

    He just shook his head.

"Dad, you were right. This is amazing....I never knew it would be this good."

"Well, actually me neither, heheh...but how does it compare to your shows?"

"No contest. There's no comparison at all, Van Halen is just in a different league."

So that was a pretty good night. He called me after G-boro and is listening to V H all the time. I saw even more kids his age at the Greensboro show. VH is pretty much giving HowtoputonarockShow 101 classes and it's good to see that it's not just going out to old fat guys like me.
We train dogs for cattle and sheep herding. They're very different. Sheep are a lot like supermodels - they bunch together, they rattle very easily. Cattle are like drunks at a hockey game - two will want to fight: "Who are you and what's with your badge?"

Two of them will be like: "Leave them alone, let's go see the game." Another one is lost: "Where'd you guys go?" The dog has to deal with all of that. You work them off a whistle. It's the original video game.

Van Halen reminded us last night of why we loved them in the first place. They helped us to get past all the bullshit around us and remind us to have a little fucking fun in the midst of it all. - Reckless Fable

No surprise to me, Brett. My kids grew up on my music and one of them is very into it. He is 12 now and he knows more Van Halen and other hard rock bands than many twice his age.

I recall one night when he was about 4 and we walked into a crowded restaurant with some friends and Jake, in perfect DLR manner, went into " Look at all the people here tonight!"".. My friend hit the floor.

Now if I can keep the girls his age from influencing him into Akon or Acorn or whatever the hell that stuff is.

I'm not surprised. I don't hesitate calling VH's music timeless. My 13 year daughter is absolutely overjoyed to be going to the concert, has been listening to my VH CD's. It's the same when I was a kid, getting into Hendrix and such.

My 19 year old, who has told me my music sucked for years, was pissed off that he didn't get to go to Greensboro. There were very many teens and pre-teens at that show. I was totally shocked. The future may not be bleak after all.

My nine year old son is totally into Van Halen. About 6 months ago I got him his first Mp3 player and all he wanted on it was Van Halen. Of course I influenced him but he is also into Pink Floyd, AIC, and Godsmack. I took him to see Roger Waters this past summer and Friday night he'll be going to see Van Halen with me. As for my 7 year old he is into heavier stuff. He likes Rob Zombie, Stone Sour Sevendust stuff like that. He also likes VH just not to the degree of my other son.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.
