I love seein' Ed play Strat body's. The Music Man and Wolfgang are great but I totally associate Ed with Strat body's.

    Hey gang,
I was at the show last night in Charlotte (drove over 500 miles from north-west Alabama). Here were my observations on the equipment used:

-The Wolfgang prototype(s) was the main axe used throughout the entire set. I couldn't tell for sure, but there might have been 2 different ones used. For some reason, the Wolfgang Ed was playing at the end of the night looked to be a little lighter in color. I could be wrong though.

-I believe he only used 2 Art Series guitars; the two pictured in the first post.

-Amps: I was sitting in the front row of section 227, so I had a pretty good view of Ed and the right-end of the stage. Overall amp setup looks to be the same as he's been using for years, with the exception of the actual amp being the 5150 III. There were about 3 heads in a rack off to the side of the stage, which I'm guessing were the actual "live" ones being used (dummy amps onstage are just for looks). I noticed three of the lower speaker cabs on stage were being miked, so it looks to be his usual w/d/w setup.

-Pedal board: Ed used the flanger quite a bit for solos throughout the night, so that one was definitely noticeable. Looks like Ed's going to be coming out with a signature wah soon; the one he used last night had the black w/ yellow stripes color scheme. He used it a lot more than I thought he would. There was also a some sort of box he stepped on quite a bit during solos; it may have just been my ears (which are much less efficient after last night, no doubt) but it made the guitar almost sound like it had a sustainer pickup in it. I know that's the last thing some of you wanted to hear. Like I said though, I'm still not sure what it was, and I don't really think he was just channel switching on the amp.

-Finally, Ed's playing: WOW. WOW. WOW. The man was ON FIRE. I've seen/heard the boots from the '04 tour, and I kind of went in expecting the worst. Damn, it was awesome though.

Anyway, back to gear. Anyone see anything different?

It's been very typical for Ed to have three 5150 (of the current variety) amps set up backstage. So, yeah, we're probably seeing dummy amps on the stacks. My guess is he uses all three amps with different settings on each for different songs. Anyone know for sure? Maybe he just uses one and has two for backup?

There is a Dunlop EVH signature wah coming out.

Seems like I remember reading on the Brown Sound page years ago that during the Balance tour, at least one of the head's in the rack was a backup. Another one was labeled for Alex, but I don't remember exactly what the page said that one was used for.
Man, that was a great site. I wish I would've saved all those pictures that were on there.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Eddie is using all 3 amps. It's nothing new. Instead of changing the way one amp sounds, abusing it and screwing with the sound of that amp, have 3 amps set up, one for clean, one for a dirty, and one for solo... clean switch between the 3. As soon as I get my MB Rectifier so that I'll have 2 half stacks, I'm going to switch between the two amps. It's a very cool concept and works, for me anyway .

Sweet! Thanks JC ! I was curious if he would pull out the old mini LP's from the 1982 - 84 tours. However, thinking about it, that would be a BIG no - no from Fender!!

I recall seeing that too, and I think you've got it right. They were: Main amp, backup, and a dry one sent directly to Alex. Ed uses some sort of speaker simulator amps for the two effects cabs.
