Default Surprising bit of info on opening act Ky-Mani Marley

I know everybody here probably assumed the Dave had a hand in getting the Marley kid the opening slot on the tour. Not so according to Ky-Mani.

Eddie was the one who gave him the slot

I am wondering if the "contact High" will be better with the opening act than VH?

Lol. Man, jam and reggae shows can turn into chronic rooms. I hate drugs and I hate smoking, so I really hope that doesn't happen.

I'm more curious about how Ky-Mani is going to sound tonight. But I probably won't care 1.5 hours before VH goes on.

Another brilliant move by the shirtless wonder... When will people take the ball away from him? Hell, I'd rather have even Dave calling the shots now. At least he's proven he can make some good ones in the previous incarnation of the band. Ed's biggest decision to make that I can live with- "Shirt or no shirt? Ah fuck it...

Of course....we've yet to hear how they even sound.... but I think it at least has the potential to be a bit more interesting than the regular boring rock flavor of the month that usually opens VH tours.

Ky-Mani,son of Bob Marley ?? I guess it makes a little sense considering the "Wolfie" angle...
I suppose he will pose little threat to the main act

Who cares about the opening act?

Unless they get a completely debilitating "contact high" walking past his dressing room as they approach the stage.

I haven't even watched a VH opening act since 1991 when I saw Hardline open on the F.U.C.K. tour.

Looks like I will be at the booze stand until 8:50 pm.

The original theory that Dave was the main force behind Marley being on the tour is correct. In that article, he does thank Eddie for letting him on the tour.

But during the first show tonight, he specifically thanked David Lee Roth after the second song.

I would imagine it was originally Dave's idea.

Here's something to consider: a crapload of Black Sabbath fans went to a bunch of shows in the late 70s. The opener was some unknown band from Pasadena, CA. called Van Halen. For some, their life was changed. Who knows? Maybe KY Marley has something going on. Maybe KY is another crappy opener, a la Mr. North. "Only time will tell if the (opener) stands the test of time."

still would've preferred a rock act or no opening act... no offense to this guy... i listen to lots of different types of music, reggae to some extent as well, but i have to be in the mood to listen to specific kinds of music, and reggae just doesn't flow into hard rock for me...

I agree. As a fat, old, alcoholic VH fan, I would prefer a 2.5 hour setlist with a twenty-five minute break in between. It would mean that the concert is all- killer-no-filler, and we could enjoy some extra time to do our business and get more cocktails. Everybody wins!

I understand both sides on this. But I saw the show tonight and he wasn't bad. The crowd also generally enjoyed it. They are also (probably correctly) assuming that most of the crowd is generally older and therefore has a high tolerance for different musical tastes.

The crowd cheered for him, even if alot of us weren't in our seats yet. And it was an older crowd in Charlotte. My friend and I (mid 20's) were easily the youngest people in the 5-star and for most of the seats I could see as well, save for kids there with older parents.

I'm not sure I'll even care to see the opening act but I may. He is the son of a legend. Where have I heard that b4? But still I think the choice is a cool one. I almost find it a sign of weakness when a band tours with a semi popular band that has a draw to sell their shows. It sounds like a cool positive vibe will flow through the arena before VH hits the stage.
