Default Groom arrested after alleged wedding assault

A Connecticut man was arraigned Monday in Bantam Superior Court for criminal charges brought against him after he allegedly tried to have relations with someone other than his new bride at his wedding reception.

Oscar Carpio, 32, 43 Lockwood, pleaded not guilty to charges of fourth-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct before Judge Paul Matasavage.
Carpio was arrested by state police at 2:52 a.m. Sept. 2 at his wedding reception held at La Cupola Restaurant, 637 Bantam Road, in Bantam. He was released a few hours later after posting a $5,000 bond at the state police barracks.

"In all of my 17 years, I have never seen anything like this before," restaurant owner Frank Rosa said. Carpio and his new wife, Cheryl, held a reception at the restaurant for about 50 people that ended in Carpio's arrest. "This was supposed to be the happiest day of their life. I don't think they are happy."
Details about the incident are not clear but the bride, victim and Carpio, an engineer for a New York City firm, were apparently drunk at the time, according to court documents.

The party was still hopping when the bride and the bridesmaid took a break and started to unwrap presents in an upstairs room at La Cupola that the couple had rented for the night. After the bridesmaid fell asleep or passed out, the bride left and went to get martinis and dance, according to court documents.

"She was dancing with some yo-yo," Rosa said.

At some point Carpio went upstairs, and reportedly visited the passed-out bridesmaid. When she awoke, she told police Carpio was not wearing his cummerbund or much else.

Rosa said he heard there was a big commotion when the alleged victim's husband arrived. A fight ensued between him and Carpio and the reception ended with a clash of broken furniture and an alcohol-fueled jealous rage.
"I might expect something like this at a different place, but not here," Rosa said.

The restaurant is known for its sophisticated menu and romantic ambience.
"I don't think there was a honeymoon," Rosa said.

Rosa added that he felt bad for the couple, who seemed nice enough. He said he was compensated for the damages and the parties apologized for the trouble.

Carpio is scheduled to appear in court again Oct. 24. His attorney, Donald A. Mitchell, could not be reached for comment.

What a special day, a wedding to be remembered.

I have a funny feeling that there are more sad and shocking details, hopefully forthcoming soon.

I know a woman that took her husband, the best man as well as the two other fellows on his side of the aisle to honeymoon suite after the wedding reception.

Believe it or not, the two (the bride and groom) have been happily married for the past 17 years.

    However...

The victim was passed out. How pathetic does one need be to do such a thing, particularly on one's wedding night?

What a loser. People like this make me feel so great about myself. But then again, I'm in love with myself. Have a good day.

I've lived in CT all my life and I've never heard of the town Bantam. I gotta get a map and check out where it is.

The jerk must have missed the part in the vows about " forsaking all other..."

I noticed his address is published. Maybe SEA should send the soon-to-be ex wife a cheese grater and instructions.

A wedding reception at a hotel I played this past July ended with the groom getting kicked out of the reception and hotel. Hotel management shut us down early due to hotel guests complaining of the volume, much to the dismay of the wedding party and attendees, resulting in lots of shouting and a near-riot. It was a memorable night for sure!
