Default The Bible, Eddie and Mike

I wasn't sure where to put this thread. Maybe Non would've been appropriate because the Van Halen connection is wafer thin here.

Anyway, I sat in church today, barely holding onto consciousness, when a line in the gospel reading suddenly had me biting the inside of my cheek to stop what would've been a good belly laugh.

The reading, from the gospel of Luke, 16th chapter, 13th verse:

"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Seriously, I thought of Eddie's now-famous "can't be in two bands" quote, and I nearly lost it.

Maybe Eddie's treatment of Mike is justified in ways we'll never understand.

That's all. A funny little Van Halen story in the midst of Sunday service. Rock on and amen.

From the outside.. the stuff with Mike looks bad. Unfair, disrespectful treatment. To let Mike go and seemingly shun him. Everyone says Ed is a petty drunk crazy alcoholic and Mike is the nicest guy in the world.

I've never met either but I know people who have. I've also heard Mike is a nice guy but I've heard that Ed is an incredibly nice and plain person. Sensitive, funny and genuine. Ed made it young and was a "guitar god" since his early 20's on, rich, famous. He's dealt with things and had more on him than Mike over the course of the band. WHO REALLY KNOWS what has gone down between them over all these years. Who TRULY knows all the details. Maybe they both have points. Maybe Ed is over reacting badly but maybe there's shit between them none of us know. I am not saying Mike deserves to be "let go"..but for all I know Mike has done enough things or Ed and Mike don't see eye to eye or haven't for so long + other stuff and Ed's done with him. Still life moves on for them and us.

    That's cool and all, but...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is all Ed's fault. Why? Ask Dave in 85, or Sammy in 96, or Dave in 96, or Dave in 2000, or Sam in 05, or Mike in 05, or Mike in 07. Just a hunch, though.

That being said, it's not going to stop me from seeing them (damnit Ed, why do you have to be so talented?)
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Basically over the years, who's the only guy in Ed's corner? His brother. And even he said in 2004 that Van Halen made mistakes in the year 1996.

So the odds are not in favor of EVH being right. A genius on the guitar, that he is. A great band leader, he's obviously not.

There's also something in their about Judge not lest ye be judged, or something like that. There's also a little ditty about not bearing false witness. That's when you spread rumor as fact even though you yourself were not present nor do you possess direct knowledge.

That last one was even written in stone, if you believe in that stuff.

Two themes I like in the Bible that are applicable to all (Eddie and Mike included) is redemption and forgiveness.
