Default New Clapton Crossroads Concert coming to PBS

Mark your calendars, PBS will be airing the new Crossroads concert from Chicago on 11/28. They're still cutting the show, but hopefully they'll leave the Clapton/Winwood performances in there....

The first Crossroads Festival is one of my favorite DVD's of all time. I freaking LOVE that Santana/Clapton jam and watching Robert Randolph shred it up.

One can only hope that this is shown uninterrupted via the "Great Performances" series the channel uses. Otherwise, look forward to break-ins after each song, reminding you of how terrific the performance you're watching is, and it also can be yours to own if you make a contribution of $75 or more for the CD, $100 or more for the DVD...

Of course, I understand PBS is publicly funded, hence the name. That does not stop the "beggathons" from being incredibly tedious and annoying.

    And yes, I do contribute.

That's what DVRs and Tivo's are for.. to fast forward through the begging.

I dunno, bro...they can take a 90 minute music show, stretch it to 3 hours and somehow lose more than half of the performance.

That's why the "Great Performance" specials are so great. The "Les Paul" one, along with the Ahmet Ertegun special, ran uninterrupted with no edits and were simply terrific.

yeah, there is a considerable amount of BS on those shows during pledge drives.

Looks like the DVD is shaping up to be 4 hours, so I'm betting it'll be outstanding...

+1 on whoever said Robert Randolph tore it up--that guy is SICK

Also, should note there's a (really small) chance that PBS will get their hands on at least one of the Experience Hendrix performances that will be happening soon....

    from www.billboard.com:

    October 02, 2007, 2:25 PM ET

    Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Eric Clapton's second Crossroads Guitar Festival will be immortalized on DVD Nov. 20 via Rhino, Billboard.com has learned. The double-DVD set features 38 tracks from the July 28, 2007, show outside Chicago, with performances from Clapton, Jeff Beck, Sheryl Crow, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Steve Winwood and Willie Nelson, among many others.

Among the highlights of "Crossroads" are former Blind Faith mates Clapton and Winwood's first on-stage collaboration in 25 years, Clapton dusting off material from Derek and the Dominos plus covering George Harrison's "Isn't It a Pity" and a rare live appearance from the Band's Robbie Robertson with Clapton on Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love."

The package wraps with Buddy Guy's "Sweet Home Chicago," featuring guest turns from Clapton, Robert Cray, John Mayer, Hubert Sumlin, Jimmie Vaughan and Johnny Winter.

Clapton is gearing up for the Oct. 9 release of his autobiography, atply titled "Clapton -- The Autobiography," and the two-CD retrospective "Complete Clapton" (Warner Bros.).
