What's the story behind the horn?

In RWTD there's the horn at the beginning. What's the story behind it? I read somehwere it was from an early 70's volvo horn put in a box and ran in reverse or something like that. Anybpdy have a better/more specific description as well as why?

Who cares what it is, it sounds cool as hell.

Eddie did the same trick on 'Panama' when he revved the engine of his Lamborghini during the solo.

Cars and music, what a combination.

It was the horn off Eddie's Volvo.

I can't remember if it was in reverse though.

They used it as a noise maker during their backyard (amongst other locations) performances. Templeman liked it, recorded it and slowed the tape down for the intro to RWTD.

I guess that's the best explanation I'm going to get. Thanks!

I thought it was Alex's volvo? Doesn't matter, but that's what I remember.

Didn't I hear that horn on the Gene Simmons demo on House of Pain a few times as well?
A little more volume in the headphones please.

    From the VH Encyclopedia:

The noise at the beginning of this song is a collection of car horns. The horns were taken from the band's own cars, including Alex's Opel, Ed's Volvo, a Merceds Benz, and a Volkswagen. The horns were mounted in a box and powered by two car batteries, with a foot switch to turn them on and off. Producer Ted Templeman slowed the horns down before adding them to the track. This same idea was first used during the band's club sets and appeared on their Simmons financed demo on "House of Pain" [...] sounding after each verse. On the demo the automotive noisemakers also acted as a segue to "Runnin' with the Devil."

I have a cassette bootleg of VH live in Pasadena when they announced that they were putting out a record. etc ... Dave was talking and drunk ... and in the background you can hear the car horns a couple of times between songs ... someone was triggering the button for a bried second. They had it rigged for live use some how.
As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot.
