Default What is Your Van Halen Moment...?

So I'm watching the videos, marveling at how healthy the guys look and how good they sound. I'm realizing..hey, this is the lineup of the band I narowly missed going to see in 1984, except the guitarist taught his kid to play bass and has seemed to have taught himself to stay sober.

GUYS: Eddie is a great teacher and his most important student is HIMSELF!

I'm seeing two old time rock guys one-up each other to be the best they can be. I'm seeing Dave work it hard with all his might. For me, this is a Van Halen moment and I have not had one in a LONG time.

    What is yours?

My VH moment will be next Thursday night when I finally get to see my beloved VH play on stage with Diamond Dave. I never had the opportunity to see VH with Dave. I posted in a thread in the tour forum where I'm very curious to see how loud the arena gets once the lights go out before VH arrives on stage.

My favorite VH moment well 2/11/84 was the best but other than that I would say every time I turn them on, turn them up, and play them loud. 9/27/07 will be my next favorite moment I believe.

My favorite VH moment was when I scored awesome tickets to the first show with DLR in 22 and a half years. I'm sure my favorite VH moment will be seeing the first show with DLR for the first time in 22 and 1/2 years from awesome seats.

I hope I'm not missing the point of the thread but watching Dave vamp Magic Bus during the Romeo Delight break and then ad lib "Magic fuckin' bus" recaptured everything I've ever loved about VH. Rock spectacle with a sense of humor. Who else does that?

The first time i heard I'm The One, I was hooked on the band for life - a band that could rock that hard, but had the sense of humor to bust out an a capella shooby doo wop in the middle of a balls to the wall rock song - you don't get that kind of sense of humor from many rock bands and that's always made a huge difference.
What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

When I was 9 my older brother put a loud as fuck stereo in my Dad's car (a red gremlin). I came out of the house one day and he was playing Eruption loud as possible. I had never heard anything like that before in my life. I was hooked. That was the moment. Next Thursday in Charlotte, it all comes together.

When I hear Ed's guitar screaming that first note at the Mohegan Sun Arena followed by Dave's voice.

1984 tour, SF Cow Palace. 18th birthday. Of the 100+ concerts I've seen in my life, that was the best show I've ever seen (and I've seen some great shows).

mine was 1979 sitting on the floor in my sisters room with the record player and listening to VHII and looking at the pictures thinking to myself, man that guitar looks so cool, and lookin at the nurse helped alot
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

Mine was getting my ears blasted out as my brother cranked up Eruption on his little cassette player and making me listen to it despite my objections. Why do big brothers have that kinda power??

Next moment is after hearing One Sunday Afternoon in the Park during the FW tour in Oakland, helluva show. Oh and the beginning of the show, the middle and the ending. Hated for that one to end.

Mine was on Sept 23rd 1978 when I went to a Boston / Black Sabbath concert (you read it right) at Anaheim Stadium in CA. The announcer said "look up to the skies to see the next band Van Halen". I look up and there are four parachutes coming down from the sky and landed in a field just past the centerfield wall. They run from the field to the stage and start playing and I went from "who the fuck is Van Halen?" to "how the fuck is he playing that shit?" in about 5 minutes. I have seen every tour since.

*funny side note* - Sammy Hagar was the act before VH that day.
