    Default Franky or Wolfgang?

What would you rather see Eddie use this year?I know that the rehearsal pics have him playin the new Wolfgang, but what do you want to see him play?

When I think of Eddie Van Halen, I don't think of some boring black guitar.

I think of the crazy red with black and white stripes Frankenstein monster!

I don't think that my answer will qualify for a vote but, anyway, I'd like to see him play whichever he feels more comfortable with. I'm past the whole 'Franky' bit and I'm pretty sure Ed could make a pail and two pieces of twine sound good!

Even though I'd love to see him play the Franky, I must admit as a guitar player, I have both a Franky and a Wolfgang archtop and the Wolfgang is a lot more comfortable and easier to fly up and down the neck, in my opinion. I remember Eddie saying in one interview in the early 90s that when he took out the Kramer 5150 after using the Ernie Ball guitars for awhile that it didn't feel as good to him anymore. Maybe this is the same case.

People are really into the nostalgia of this tour, thus a lot want to see him play a striped Strat-style guitar. I think it'd be a cool tribute to the past (as would including Michael Anthony on the tour), but the Wolfgang is Eddie's guitar design; he owns it, he's played it for years, and speaking from personal experience I can tell you it is one of the nicest guitars out there. It's likely we'll see both, but I'd like to see him latching on more to his advanced guitar design than the Frankie. (Not trying to take any love away from the Frankie, mind you...)

I'd like to see both actually but if I had to pick one..considering the material being played and the momentous occasion I'd have to say the original Franky all the way.... and I'm not talking about the over priced replicas.

Man, I'm excited to see this show!

He couldn't tour with that piece of shit again if he wanted to, it was retired long ago for a reason....it was falling apart ! There's no way it would hold up to the riggers of touring these days.

Although I'll agree that this tour is a bit of a nostalgia trip, it doesn't mean they have to relive every last detail. Playing the old songs is good enough for me....I don't need big hair, spandex, splits off the drum riser, midgets or patchwork pants to enjoy the ride.

Some of you guys are really trivial......

Just as it can't be 1984 again, neither VH nor the fans should try to make it so.

Well Brian May still plays his old guitar, the Red Special, he made it with his dad when he was a teenager. He uses other guitars too but it's used. Just in response to this poll I think the Franky would be cool. I'm not sure if its falling apart either.....maybe it's bullshit but in the fender evh promo thing he held up the original and it looked solid, in good shape, and very playable....in fact i think he strummed on it a little.

Ed's said in many interviews since 88' that it's in bad shape and falling apart...but we all know that he could probably dis-assemble and re-assemble it blindfolded....much like a Marine and his M-16.

If we see a Frankie at all, I'm sure it will be a replica. Yeah, the copys were 25K, but the estimate on the original (according to a Guitar World article) is close to a million bucks. Don't think I'd tote that one around the country.

    +1

Not too mention, the stage looks more or less like something U2 would use, so with everything else being updated, might as well use an updated axe!
