    Default Power Soak

Just wanted to know if any of you have one? I have been looking at the old school Tom Scholtz model? Anyone have it..Bad or good?

Any new ones that are good? I have a tube amp, not solid state.

I messed with the TS when I had an old 69 Marshall. It was so-so but I thought it colored the tone a little and ended up getting the Marshall modified with a master volume. Since then, I've used Boogie's and have really had a need for a soak.

    Google: Ultimate Attenuator

Also, Dr. Z makes the Airbrake which is good.

an old marshall power brake worked for me with a 5150 and a marshall jcm800.

they will colour the tone coz you are driving the amp harder, also you could consider pulling a couple of power amp tubes if u want less volume

I've got an old Marshall JCM 800 2203 that's just ungodly loud without an attenuator of some sort. I use a Weber Mass 150 with it. The Weber is nice. It has two knobs on it, one to cut the lows/mids, one to cut the mids/highs. It also has a bypass, two speaker outputs, and a line output. The line output would only be usefull running into a cabinet emulator though, because it sounds like crap running direct to a mixing board or recording console.

I'm pretty happy with it, and it's more adjustable than the THD Hotplates I've used since you can adjust the volume of the lows and highs independently. It's built very well too, and it costs a little less than a Hotplate. I think mine was $225.

    No Powersoak.

Go for the Mass or MiniMass attenuator, the Airbrake, or the Ultimate Attenuator.

    No Marshall Powerbrake, either.
