    Default Pickups??

I had to have my bridge p/u replaced on my Wolfgang a month ago at a local guitar shop. I just now realized that my NECK pickup has mysteriously reversed itself. Instead of the white on top/black on bottom, the black is on top and white is on bottom. It used to be the opposite (which is how all wolfgang pups sit). My question is, why did it get reversed and should I worry about it. It sounds the same as before but I cannot figure out why someone would reverse it. Any thoughts.

Ironically my Ernie Ball EVH has the neck p/u reversed against the bridge pickup so now my guitars match!!

No idea why it was reversed. If you didnt tell them to do it, they shouldn't have touched it.

I wouldn't worry bout it unless it bothers you cosmetically or you split the coils and prefer the active coil in it's original position.

Unless the coils are really unbalanced and/or you had the adjustable poles raised/radiused etc-should sound the same in series as before. Grab Dan Erlewines "How to make your electric guitar sound great" and learn wiring and set-ups.

Save yourself alot of headaches down the road.

They had to pull out the neck PU to remove/replace the bridge PU wires to the switch, and they just turned it around when they put it back. I've seen people do it to their Wolfs just because they like the "reversed" look.

I've never worked on a Wolfgang, but I can't imagine why you'd have to remove the neck pickup on a guitar to replace the bridge one.

I've replaced pickups in Les Pauls before and have never had to do that, and a Wolfgang seems pretty similar.

I'm wondering whether the replacement pickup was wired backwards from the original one and they flipped around the neck pickup to try and make them match.

They should have called the customer in any case.

When I said "remove" I simply meant unscrewed from the body so the wiring from the bridge pickup could be pushed through the cavity to the toggle switch (Wolf pickups are mounted directly to the body). There's wouldn't have ben any reason to undo any wiring. So when they screwed the pickup back in they would have just turned it around. A tech once did the same to one of my Wolfs.

I called a few friends over to help me "bury a rug" down by the river.
